There are many ways of analyzing dreams--At one level you could say it is a warning--from that point of view you can just pray for your husband and son-in-law and send safety their way--On another level it could be about your fears of something related to your relationships with them--how something is dying or changing--death is really just another type of transformation and so could symbolize some major changes that you are going through in your relationships with them...You could be helping your husband transform and change himself and your soon-to-be son-in-law may be transforming while doing his duty--their old selves are dying....
Another way of viewing this dream is to see that all aspects of the dream are you--The part of you that reminds you of your husband is dying or changing--maybe your masculine side and the part of you that is doing your duty all the time is dying--Are you taking enough care of yourself? or are you expereincing changes that are forced on you during the course of your life..Interestingly, both of these people who died are men--it could be your male side--
Basically, YOU have to decide what teh images mean to you--my suggestions are just ways for you to jump start your own questioning and searching abou what your unconscious psyche is trying to tell you--trust your intuition--you mentioned a cherokee great grandmother--I don't know much about that --but if it was your first instinct--I'd go with it--and try to see what you can connect--what about her or about the cherokee culture is reminding you of your husband/future son-in-law and dangers or changes that they are going through--or that you are going through?
If you are really into it you can look into dreamwork, Jungian psychology, dream analysis, etc...Journal about it and see what you come up with...
it is exciting to explore the messages of our dreams--Good Luck--Here are some excerpts from the internet...
Meaning of dreams and dreaming about death
When we dream of death, our emotions run high. Feelings of terror, anxiety or even liberation can dominate our mood upon waking. As with any other type of dream, there is no one answer for what the dream means. Generally speaking, however, dreams about death signify much needed change in our lives. Such dreams typically herald symbolic rather than literal death. In this way, death dreams let us know that some part of the self needs to be radically reworked, whether it be one's attitudes, emotions, or relationships.

I've always heard that dreams of death is a sign of something good will happen in your life. On the flip side, I have heard if someone dreams of a wedding that means death of a love one or someone you know.

Are you pregnant? I have always heard that dreaming of death represents some sort of a birth. Whether it be you or someone else close to you- (physically or spiritually). The death of someone or something (dreaming or awake) always gives way to a birth or new beginning.

if you are the kinda person that gets warnings and helpful messages from dreams, then take this more seriously. When I have bad dreams, I pray and it works everytime. Sometimes, when something evil chases me, I scream Jesus and the monster runs away. I am telling you, no pun, for real. It happens to people I know too. Try it. Believe it and it will work.
