Does this really matter????What can i do??

umm so i know this is going to sound a bit shallow but i'm 14 and i don't have a cell phone. it kinda makes me mad because well everyone hear has a phone and i'm in a crowd where stuff like that really matters. my best friends got theirs over a year ago and they don't bug me about not having one or anything but i feel left out none the less. My parents are fine with me getting one as long as it is a pay as you go phone and i'm ok with that, cause my friends don't have to know that, its just it cost more to but the phone out and i'm not really wealthy or anything. Plus my dad wants me to staighten up my attitude and all that before i get it. my mom said if i'm lucky it will okay take three or four months. how can i convince my parents to let me get one sooner??? I don't only want the phone because my friends have one but because it could be used as a serious safety percaution and could save me a lot of time and so on. Please help.

Though cell phones can be used as a great saftey precaution...they can also be a real danger. Lets just say your parents know best in this situation.....If they feel you are not mature enough for a cell phone, they are probably right. And your reasoning sounds more like trying to convince other people that you should have a phone...instead of valid reasons to get one. This is what you should do. Start off by being a model daughter....show how mature you can be, help out around the house (when not asked to) Follow the rules in your household, and try not to bug your parents so much about getting one, then they will be more convinced that you dont want one because "everyone else has one" and think of you as growing up to a level where you deserve one. Just remember to be careful when you actually get one...there are some really sick individuals out there, and a cell phone can be just as deadly as talking to strangers on the internet......

Waitaminutehere... you admit that you want a cell phone just to be one of the "cool" kids in spite of the fact that your parents think you have some kind of an attitude problem and on top of that you know that you are going to have financial problems because of it. You also say that this makes you shallow but, apparently, you're okay with being shallow. How about this, earn your parents respect by finding some kind of part-time job so that you can pay for your own phone and maybe even save money for college.

If you really want it for emergency then buy a used or refurbished phone and use it only for 911. I had a friend that didn't even buy a plan with minutes and 911 still works on the phone, so there ya go.

Think about it -- I am 25 (which is NOT old, by the way!) and when I was in high school we did NOT have cell phones. Especially not in middle school. No way! We lived. it's fine.

In fact, the teens that get cell phones now just waste money on going over in minutes, text pages, etc. Oftentimes paging people and stuff that they aren't really even friends with a year later so why pay all that stupid money?

Also, for teens that go over in their minutes, etc. and get lazy about it it can affect their credit which will matter to you a TON when you leave high school and start trying to get credit cards, money for college, an apartment, etc.

Don't sweat it!

Hahaha 14... im 17 and i just got mine. its not a neccesity, you should be glad your getting it in few months there are people that dont get one at all.
