I'm getting an airline job at SEA-TAC and I'm looking at where would be a good place to move to. I heard it rains alot in WA compared to the sunny days in CA that I'm used too. I was raised in a small town, but love the city. I want to be able to feel safe and like it where I'm moving. I would also like to know what kind of things there are to do out there. I love amusment parks and having a good time.

The further south you go, the cheaper housing gets. Fortunately, Sea-Tac is already south of Seattle. Federal Way, which is about 15 minutes south of the airport is where the amusement park called Enchanted Village/Wild Waves is located. Keep going south and you get to Milton, Fife and Tacoma. Puyallup (pronounced pew-all-up), Sumner, Orting and Bonney Lake would also be a reasonable commute to Sea-Tac (less than 1 hour).

I live in an area of Tacoma known as Midland. It's got a rural feel (at least for a city girl like me), but is very much in the city. Anytime you drive anywhere, you always see horses, cows and even llamas, so you can almost forget that you're still in a highly populated area. It's about 45 minutes from the airport.

Good luck with the new job and the move!

Greetings,

The only major amusement park, which is seasonal, is Enchanted Village/Wild Waves, operated by Six Flags (neat water park in the summer; rides are ok too - but not as fancy as those down in southern California). In terms of a night life, and assuming you are single, Seattle would be the best place (Downtown, Beltown, Queen Anne, Greenwood, Ballard) are ideal places for single-minded folk. Traffic might be the only problem along the side streets.

If you're looking for a more suburban /family lifestyle close to Seattle and close to airport (25 miles or less from SeaTac), I would suggest Renton, Auburn, Federal Way, Puyallup, Bonnie Lake, and Sumner.

Try to avoid: Bellevue, Redmond and anything along the Eastern shore Lake Washington. Nice, ritzy areas with plenty of nightlife -- but the traffic is terrible (5 mph crawl in the mornings and evenings on I-405, and 520 Floating Bridge) Just my personal opinion if you're commuting into SeaTac on a daily basis. The city of SeaTac has its ok parts, but try to stay clear of International Boulevard/Highway 99 in terms of daily living. The area may be safe to stay in a hotel or eat at a local establishment, but not so safe with some of the homes adjacent to the road (was dubbed prostitute row at one time; the image has cleaned up a little bit over the years).

Hope this helps.

According to my husband, any town here is better than San Jose. He lived there for several years after leaving Seattle and couldn't wait to move back. Federal Way has a Six Flags, but that might be closing according to reports. Seattle is Expensive to live in, but the outlying areas are cheaper....much cheaper than San Jose.

Seattle is pretty safe place and there is lots of activity to do. SEA-TAC airport is roughly 10 miles from Seattle downtown. Yes, it does rain 8 months in a year however those other 4 months makeup for them. If you love outdoors, WA is heaven. One of the most beautiful cities in the world.
