I'd say so... he is a great player who got suspended for steroids, but when he came back he was still 2nd for overall sacks in the NFL, if he didn't make that decision, he'd be a definate canidate, now it will prolly go to L.T. or Drew Brees.

Yes, but it was right of the league to not give him the defensive MVP. You cannot take steroids and be suspended yet turn around and get a MVP. That shows kids yeah it is wrong but man I will still get the awards. Merriman shouldn't have even been in the race, but he is a great player no doubt.

no. you cheat, you pay the penalty. he wasn't going to be MVP anyways, but he shouldn't have been the defensive POY either. he made the choice to cheat, or if he didn't know what he was taking, he should have. you still go to jail even if you didn't know you were breaking a law, you should have known and this is the same thing. giving him that award would say that if you are good enough, you can cheat all you want and still be given awards. if that's the idea, then why even bother to test for steroids and stuff, there'd be no point. he's a great player, but jason taylor had at least as good a year, and he didn't need to cheat to do it, and he's the focus of every offense miami goes up against, san diego has much more talent on d than miami. and of course even if he did take the steroids during the offseason, it helped prep him for the season, he got faster and stronger for the regular season

I do not think he was robbed I think Jason Taylor deserved the defensive MVP besides the sacks and interceptions he also created 10 fumbles this year. LT definitely deserved to be the leagues MVP
But I do agree if you get suspended for the league's substance abuse policy I think you should also be out of contention for any awards as well including the pro bowl.
The NFL has a list of safe supplements you can take. If YOU decide to take something else have it tested first. When you make the kind of money they do you can afford it

Yes, the drug he tested positive for remains in your system for up to a year after you take it so it is possible that he made one mistake or received a tainted supplement on one occasion and is now being punished for it. The 4 game suspension was fine but it was obvious to me that he was the most dominant defensive player in the NFL. Jason Taylor obviously cares more about personal acolades than winning because he had to petition to have Merriman's name removed from the list so that he could win the award. If Taylor really was a winner then he would buff back up 270 and stop pretending to be a linebacker/lineman hybrid. Taylor was able to make so many plays because the defense usually aims to run or pass in his direction because they are confident in their ability to exploit his small stature. Taylor is simply the product of a player who was given many opportunities to rack up some stats. Defenses plan for Merriman and they still can't stop him.

The supplement that he used did not list the steroid in his system as being an ingredient. Sean Merriman received a letter of apology from the company and there is still a lawsuit pending on Merriman's behalf. It's not the first time that a player has received a letter noting a manufacturer's mistake, but the NFL chooses to hold a stubborn stance on the situation.

Robbed? He violated league rules by taking an illegal performance enhancing substance. If he would have been selected as Defensive Player of the Year don't you think that would have 1) Seriously tainted and minimized the award, and 2) Made a mockery of the entire NFL substance abuse policy. I don't see him being robbed at all. He cheated, was caught and now he has to pay the price. NFL policy is to easy in my mind. I think he should have been banned from playing in the playoffs also. If that was the rule then the teams themselves would take a much stricter stance with their players. I'd go for....1st offense - 8 games suspension without pay, not eligible for any post season play or awards....2nd offense - lifetime ban from the league.

I think he was robbed of the Top Defensive player of the year for his bad decicion but I dont think Taylor should have won it if Merriman didnt win it I thought Champ Bailey should have he is better than Taylor and a better sport than Taylor in the fact that he didn't complain about Merriman almost stealing the award from him. It just isn't fair to Bailey, Merriman or the others who could have been up for the award that a guy who whines about the fact that he could lose wins the award. I totally think Bailey or Merriman should have won!!!!!!!!

Im assuming you meant to say defensive player of the year, because he never had a shot at MVP, and yea Id say if his using hadnt come to light he would have been the slight favorite over taylor...but i wouldnt use the word robbed to describe what happened...he chose to use steriods and now he faced the consequences thats not being robbed

No, the MVP belongs to LaDainial Tomlinson, however, he was robbed of the Defensive Player of the year award. I don't care if he took a tainted supplement in the off season, he played without any steroid during this season, and that's what matters, not what he did in the off season.
