I agree with In N Out for hamburgers.
Nations also has good burgers plus great pies if you've got a hearty appetite. Also, Barney's in North Berkeley or Piedmont mmmmmmmm
As for pizza, I'm afraid I can only speak for offerings in the Oakland area. Personally, I like Milano's (North Oakland), Leaning Tower of Pizza (Lake Merritt), Cafe Rustica (Rockridge, I think, not sure cuz I always get delivery), and Zachary's is supposed to be very popular among the UC-Berkeley crowd.
Whatever you decide, don't pick Mickey D's or Domino's - bad, bad, bad!

There is this horrid place next to Starbucks on Stoney Point Rd in Santa Rosa that makes the best and I do mean the BEST meatball sandwich in the World, called Simply Delicious. Go there now, right away and give them your money. You can't lose. The Italian hot sub is brutal as well and the pizza will also kill you in a good way!

I see your from California.. Okay. try Nations, In and Out Burger, Hazel's in Antioch, Ca. There is another chain,but I forgot the name. In Concord, Ca in the Willows.. ( I don't eat burgers often). Pizza, Primo's in Danville, Ca is good.. Aladino's pizza in Concord, Antioch, Brentwood, Walnut Creek and Oakley.
