It will hurt yes, because you're having something sharp create an open wound in your skin. But as long as you take care of it afterwards, some ibuprofin (Advil) for the swelling that first night and warm water sea salt soaks will also help.
I have two in my cartilage (my newest one will be a year old in march) and the only times that they have caused me any "pain" outside of that first night, was the piercer had put the captive ball ring in it too tight, causing it to swell and in my second one's case, I slept on it funny.
They take up to at least a year (or more) to heal properly, as I said my second one isnt even a year old, I took the little hoop I had in it out to clean the rings and it bled like the first day I was pierced. So yes, baby them. Out of all piercings, cartilage is the most fussy.
So now that I've rambled, if you get it congrats and if you do, sea salt warm water soaks (as hot as you can stand it) as a cleanser, rinse it off really well with cool water after and oh yes, don't go to a place like Claire's. The gun equipment they use is not the proper tools for this type of a piercing.

Do it it hurts slightly in spite of the undeniable fact that it is like pluking a earbrow for roughly 20 secs and it is going or once you get braces and upward thrust up and close your mouth and it hurts abit that discomfort for 20 secs !! there is are no longer any nerves the place us females get it completed so it would not injury as much as a scale of a million to 10 getting your ears pierced is merely approximately 3/10 !!! Do wat you fell is rights !!!

Yeah, it does quite a bit. It's fast though. I pierced my own with a push pin and that hurt like a *****. If it hurt enough to make you cry to get your lobes done, I wouldn't recommend any other piercings. If you do decide to get it done though, cartilage never really heals. You can't even go one night without earrings or they will close up (cartilage, not lobes). Mine closed after only about 4 hours! If you sing the ABCs while they poke you, it will help. Just do it in your head and close your eyes. That's what I do when I get shots, and it helps.

yes the cartilage hurts alot worse than the lobes. but you will be fine! i got 2 cartilage piercings. they burned for 8 hours and gave me a headache. lol but please! the pain will be greatly minimized and healthier if you get it done at a body shop with a needle!. getting it done with a needle is just as fast as a gun (needles are even faster) you have someone with LOTS of experience doing the, not some woman at the mall who rings peopel up all day. piercers are highly sterilized with their equiptment.
cartilage piercings are a hard piercing to heal mainly cause there is restricted bloodflow in this area and is more prone to infections. but if you follow the aftercare instructions the risk will be greatly minimized. i have had those 2 cartilage piercings for 3 months and they are still sore sometimes. but its not a bad sore. you get used to it. but its well worth it!
getting done wiht a needle will also reducae your risk of keloids (over growths of scar tissue that ned to be surgically removed, they look like a pimple on the piercing VERY UGLY) nneedles make a clean cut through where guns force a blunt dull object through the ear causing uneccessary trauma that can shatter the cartilage, lead to infection and ultimately lead to cartilage collapse leaving your ear permanently deformed...
please get it done with a needle! even thogh everyone who works there looks intimidating they are always very nice! plus gettin it done with a needle makes your piercing heal faster!
i learned from my friends to get it done by a professional. they all got theirs done with a guna nd most developed keloids and ended up takign out their piercings cause it was causign them so much pain!. so i got all of my cartilage piercings done with a needle =)
i suggest you do the same
email me if you have any more questions!
but really it isnt that bad! the pain is only temporaroy but you can be sore for a few months.
bring a friend and get it done together, hold eachothers hands. lol thats what i do... im 19 ahaha
but dont get it done at claires! get it done at a professional body pierce shop/tattoo shop you will be alot better off in the long run!!

It's the same pain. It never did bother me, just a quick poke and it was all over with.
Tops and bottom felt the same to me. I have the little nub of my ear pierced too and have to admit, that one hurt a little more.

If you cried when you pierced your lobe, then I don't think you can handle the cartilage being pierced, sorry. When I got my lobe done, it didn't hurt at all, but when I got my cartilage done.... OUCH!

Any piercing would hurt but it all depends ultimately on your mental set up at that time and also your capacity to bear the pain.
