step one: LEARN THE PIRATES LINGO. pirates have a very complex system of speaking.
step two: THE CLOTHES. your apparel as a pirate is what defines you. at least get an eyepatch and a bandanna but DON'T COPY other pirates!
step three: WEAPONS. so you need a good sword and you need to know how to use it! and a pistle is nice too, but have more than one shot! and if you have a ship, get some cannons, they're pretty helpful!
step four: KNOWLEDGE. to be a good pirate you need to be knowledgable. you need to know how to fend for yourself. how to fight in a battle. and how to work/know the names of the parts on your ship.
and if you can't go through with one of these steps, just slap on some eyeliner and go around shouting 'ARRRR!'

Seriously? Get yourself a little boat, paddle out into the ocean, board the next ship you find and then, rape, pillage and plunder.
You know that piracy is still a big thing in open international waters? I read a story about some Chinese immigrants who had to work for 10 years to afford to buy their daughters back from pirates who'd stolen them at sea and this was in the 1990's.
