I am a big fan of M. Night Shyamalyn's movies, and I usually see them in the theater, but after hearing such bad reviews of Lady in the Water I was really afraid that I wouldn't like it. Well, I finally watched it and I have to say that I loved it! What I liked best is that it was not like any other movie I had ever seen and it did not follow the same formula that his other movies did. I am just utterly confused about why so many people hated it, even after re-reading some of the horrible reviews. It just doesn't make sense to me. Everyone said he needed to break his routine, so he did and now it backfired. I am worried that he will be discouraged and his future movies will lack the imagination and creativity that I like about his writing and directing. Maybe this isn't possible, but...Anyway...any thoughts on this? Hopefully this won't turn into a bashing session.

1. The movie bashed movie critics. That is why movie critics retaliated and gave him a bad review in return.

2. People thought that he shouldn't have given himself a big part

3. People in general like mediocrity and do not appreciate when a man creates soley for the purpose of doing a great thing. People want great men to create for people and are appalled when they refuse to.

I think this guy cares very little for what critics think. He makes the movie he wants to make, whether he thinks it will be popular or not. I really believe this. Many thought Unbreakable was ridiculous, but I loved it. He just does what he wants. I liked Lady in the Water, too, didn't love it, but surely you can see that it just looks silly and childish to a lot of movie goers. Fantasy is a gray area and if you rely too much on the fantasy and less on the human element, it doesn't work for adult viewers, and I think this movie was aimed at adults. The end was a little bit of a let down, with the eagle and all (the part relying too much on fantasy), and I think that's where it really missed with critics, and other elements of the story may have done so as well.

So, they may not like the story, but I think the critics should realize that he tells a story visually as good as anyone, and uses suspense as well as anyone, which is ultimately gives his movies credence for me. It's watchable because the filmmaking is expert.

Even though we were warned that it wouldn't be such a thriller or too suspenceful, we kinda still expected to get some-come on it's the creator of the Sixth Sense and Signs. The Trailers to the film gave people a different impression and well...it was not what people expected...but i'm not saying that it was bad

I'm a fan of MNS too and I have to say I LOVED IT! It was creative and entertaining. I totally don't care about what people say. It seems that people don't get the depth and meaningfulness of his movies. When I told my sisters to watch "The village" I was expecting an amazement of the plot. All I got was "What a boring movie!! we slept the whole time!!" What can I say?

action picture critics base their comments on what they experience a action picture ought to have. they did no longer think of that the plot and sublot and subtle nuances and different issues have been good. issues that no person truly cares approximately different than action picture critics who've some distance too lots time on their palms. the undeniable fact that Revenge of the Fallen made $4 hundred million exhibits that critics are just about continuously incorrect. it somewhat is the objective audience that makes a action picture, no longer the critics. i think of their job ought to be limited to a overview and that's it.

I saw it. It would have been much better for me if they didn't explain all the movie at the beginning. Personally I thought it was going to be WAY different. It was still good, but more predictable than his other movies. Unlike the Village, which wasn't predictable at all, this movie kind of unfolded to quickly for me.

i Love M. Night Shyamalyn's movies too..but honestly i hated lady in the water..i went to see it as a good horror movie..i jumped once and thats because my friend grabed me!
Im pretty sure that if he's a smart man, he'll ignore all that crap and keep going and making more movies...i mean seriously The Village was AWESOME now that was a good quick scare (they are others that are better, but a MNS's thats a good one!)

Im sure your not that only one who liked it, but im sorry to say im not one of 'em. If anything for me it was comedy, NOT horror

(BTW the 1/2 buff man (i cant remember his name) was AWESOME)

I've never seen that movie, but like the kid in Big Daddy says, "most critics are cynical assholes". I prefer to like what I like instead of having critics tell me what I like.

The problem is everyone is expecting another "Sixth Sense" and, although his subsequent films have been good (I like "The Village"), it's not "Sixth", thus the disappointment

Because it was odd the way Mr. Shyamalyn was portraying his point of view. Critics are haters lol
