Evgeni Malkin seems to be a run away with this year's Calder trophy winner. His skill and ability are only enhanced by Sidney Crosby. And he (as well as Crosby) are only going to get better. If this tandem stays together, they will be a monster force to be reckoned with in the not to distant future.

But, as far as the Hart Memorial trophy goes, I would currently have to give it to Atlanta's Marian Hossa. All season, he's lit up the scoreboard with his amazing play, and he also has a great cast of supporters in Ilya Kovalchuk and Slava Kozlov. But, the season is only half over. And if Crosby keeps on pace, it would be hard to ignore him as well.

If the season ended right now, the Penguins would be on the outside looking in. But there are plenty of games to get into the thick of the playoff race. But, if they do manage to get in, I think they'll find it tough competition. With their young, inexperienced team, I don't know how well they'll fair. But, it is entirely possible that the Penguins could make some trouble for the other teams in the role of a spoiler. I won't count them out until they've been eliminated.

First, it will take more than one game against the Sabres to get the Pens in the playoffs. Currently, they're not that far out, but their defense is so weak that I think they'll lose more tight ones than the other way around.

Crosby is something special for sure. I hate him like I hated Jagr those first years he was on the Pens. It's a sour grapes thing sort of. MVP is certainly a possibility, but don't expect it if they don't make the playoffs and at least make a series competitive.

Malkin is the real deal. I think he will be the rookie of the year. See my comments above about Crosby, Jagr. I think once they get some defensive studs out there, these guys are going to really take off.

sidney is the best player in the nhl, he dosnt have big name people around him other than recii and malkin, hes always playing smart and has the determintaion to get better every game and hes already better than everyone, malkin is a gtreat talent and had a great shot and is a strong person he doesnt fall down alot when hit and can take hits, the only thing he needs to work on is not to take pentalies at the end opn periods

sid should easily win the mvp, malkin is the best rokkie on the ice

if the pens make it to the playoffs they will be a 8th or 7th seed and they will have a tougher road but they proved they can play with anyone on the ice, we need to stop going on 4 game win streaks then losing 4 in a row

LETS GO PENS

Sid the Kid is playing great hockey but there's some guys right behind him like Jagr, Hossa, and Iginla it will be a great race for the Art Ross and I think Crosby will only get the MVP award only if he brings them to the playoffs, you have some other's that deserve the MVP also in Huet, Brodeur just to name a few. and for Malkin he is also in a great race with L.A's Anze Kopitar he has 35 points to Malkin's 37 so another great race this year as last.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Malkin is certainly making a good case for himself. Sidney is as well, but I would have difficulties seeing a player on a non-playoff team awarded the MVP. Right now, I think Cristobal Huet in Montreal has a pretty strong case. Did anyone think the Habs would be this strong in 06-07?

And this from a diehard Leafs fan.

Both are good picks, and how far they go in the playoffs depends on their defense. They have proven they can score the goals, but can they continue to stop them? It depends on the consistency of Fluery. I'd love to see them go all the way, it's been too damn long since they won the cup. I did see parts of the game, but it's kind of hard to watch a hockey game with a wound up 3 year old running around in front of the tv.

God, I hope he doesn't get MVP. If you really watch this kid play, you'll see that he gets away with a lot of calls. It's not even funny. I'm hoping Ovechkin will take the prize.

As of right now that sounds perfect but there's still a lot of season left.
