I absolutley think the general public would 'freak out' if the government told us ets were real.
The way that most religions on earth are written completely leave out the possibility of life somewhere else in the universe. I think if we were shown proof of ets, the worlds religions would collapse.
Im a big believer in ufo technology, and ets visiting earth. There have been so many credible witnesses, its hard to ignore it all. When you have entire military bases going on lockdown, and scrambling fighter jets that get out ran by a disc shaped craft that pulled a 90 degree turn at 3000 mph, thats hard to disbelieve.
When you have an entire school of children in a thrid world country, that have never even seen aircraft report to their teachers that they saw a disc shaped object land, and ets exit the craft, how can you ignore this?
One more conspiracy and im done.
Anyone notice how in less then 1 month, we find liquid water on mars, we announce a base on the moon, we find liquid methane on titan, without having a conceivable idea how it renews itself (methane has a very short life span, 10 million years), and we repair the hubble? Quite circumstancial i must say...

NO, I don't believe that ET's are really on earth, and if they were, I don't believe the government would hide them. What reason would they have to hide them? Because they think the aliens would scare us? If these higher beings are more intelligent and whatnot, then they probably would have made themselves known, and I don't think the government would be able to hide they're presence against their wishes. Also, why on earth would the "ET's" want us not to know they were here? How would they know to go directly to the government, so as not to reveal themsevels to the general population? And your logic about Hollywood preparing us for this big secret by prodocing movies about ET's is also rediculous. Hollywood has also made alot of movies about talking animals. Perhaps now they're also preparing us for the news that all animals can actually talk.

there is no regulation that permits or supplies the right for someone to puppy yet another persons canines. If human being A suggested no please do not puppy him and human being B skipped over and did it besides then human being B might want to be at fault, inspite of the indisputable fact that, regrettably human being A might want to in all likelihood get each of the blame. i wager you may want to placed it this way, a organization posts an illustration that asserts danger extreme Voltage do not contact, someone sees the signal yet proceeds to the contact the twine besides and ignore concerning the caution, he receives zapped and injured who's at fault, the organization for having the twine there contained in the first position or the fool that chosen to push aside the caution? i don't have self assurance that the overall public must have the right to handle each person's canines era regardless.

Ask a scientist and they'll scoff at mentions of UFOs, etc. But most scientists easily accept the idea that we are not alone in the universe.
The most likely (or even possible) scenario is that we will detect radio signals from an intelligent civilization somewhere in our galaxy. Forget about detecting signals from another galaxy. In fact, we're looking for alien transmissions now. But the US government isn't the one looking.
These guys are looking: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/
Unless there are undiscovered laws of physics that allow for "warp drive", we won't need any welcome mats for little green men. I'm not holding my breath, waiting for someone to develop warp drive.
I'm a huge skeptic when it comes to UFO sightings. But I'll bet there are other worlds in this galaxy that have intelligent life on them.

well, personally i believe in aliens like i mean like there is insurmountable amounts of proof that they exist. but there must be a reason for the government to not give us (the general public) straight answers.. like when ever there is a UFO sighting it always turns out to be a weather balloon. clearly the government is hiding something... for what reason i don't know.. i would assume that the government doesn't want to tell the public that there are in fact ET's out there because of fear of global panic and fear... i mean even though i think aliens are out there, if the president of the U.S.A were to sternly say that yes there are aliens and there is proof etc. i would not sleep the same.

I think quite a lot of people would be scared, but I don't think it would come as a complete shock to most Americans. There would, of course, be bigots who would hate for the sake of hating. There would be a great deal of religious implications - some zealots would probably freak out.
Overall, the public could handle it, but it would be a very fundamental change to our opinions about ourselves and our place in the universe. I think we'd get more curious about space, and it might even cause some to want to come more together as a species.

No, the gov't has made sure it won't be a surprise by filling our heads with images and stories via the media. Maybe some of the ignorant red state hicks might try to shoot it or be "scared", but they are frightened by anything that bathes, has all their teeth, or can formulate a thought that did not come from a biblical reference... since the answer to any problem, is to shoot it (think empty beer cans... recycle? naaw, ma' just shoot 'er) well... you get the picture.
