Does anyone have any good links to some Civil War picture. Please help...thanks.

It's just customary picture positioning of the times. Take, for example, most modern family portraits. There is a traditional, uniform pose for most of these portraits (the male(s) are usually standing in the back behind the female, hand resting on her shoulder. The smallest child is in the lap of the mother, etc). The same principle applies to pictures taken in any era, they mimic the traditional stance in photos of their time. Look at how most younger girls pose in pictures today, with scrunched up faces, lips protruding and peace signs. Not as classy as the gents from the era of the civil war, but people tend to mimic poses.

Kodak company had several good books on Civil War Photography. might want to try the library as there are many photographic books available
