I have my custody order in the state of California and my ex lives in Oregon. I am trying to move to Idaho within the next couple of months. This will actually put my son closer to his dad. I just need to know what the right way of going about leaving would be. I already talked to my ex about it and he was ok with the idea of our son living there. I just dont want to leave and have him say he never knew. Any input would help!

I would either go to court or get him to sign a notarized letter stating the he is allowing you to move from California to Oregon..consult with an attorney to see if the notarized letter is legal_

You'll probably end up creating a letter to the judge who determined
custody arrangements - and that letter would include a letter from your Ex
(signed) which stated that he was OK with the new arrangements.

If there were attorneys to the divorce, they should be able to create these
letters with little fuss. The jurisdiction of the custody may change to
another judge in the new state.

because attorneys are so expensive it might be pricey to consult with one. find a website that has this kind of legal info. if it were me i think i would do the handwritten notarized letter by the ex husband. you keep the original copy. notaries typically only charge $10-$20. maybe there is an info phone number at the court you could call?

The safest legal thing to do is to have your lawyer write a letter to your ex and keep it on file. The letter should state that you are going to leave CA and move to OR. You will have a document on file as your proof that he was notified.

Have your ex send a letter with his signature stating it's ok and then you sign it too and file it at the courthouse.
