It is not the citizens of the USofA. It is your Governmental policies, your religious leaders and your business leaders that have caused the problem you refer to.

Canada's economy has been hurt many times by the laws passed by the USofA government. US Businesses have lobbied for these laws.

Your religious and government leaders have gone to other countries and condemned the religious or government leaders of those countries. Often without having any real knowledge of the country, leaders or religions they are criticising.

Your government puts pressures on countries to sign agreements that have very adverse conditions for these countries. If the agreements were switched around, the US would never agree to signing. But they threaten to withdraw support, help, medicines, and business if these countries do not sign.

Your government insists on supporting democracies, which I think is a good thing, but when these budding democracies elect people your government officials do not like, for what ever reason, they not just threaten to withdraw businesses and support, they actually do withdraw businesses and support.

Your government sometimes supports ruthless dictators, suppressing budding democracies because these dictators support US businesses where as the democracies would insist on it's peoples getting something out of the businesses. Who did the US Government support in the Middle East, selling him arms, weapons and technical support in exchange for Oil and Business concessions? Saddam Hussein.

On more than one occasion, your government has supported rebels with arms, training and money against the legally elected governments of other countries. Who trained Al Qaeda and Osma Bin Ladin? The US Government did. The also condemn other countries for supporting the legal governments of these countries.

On many occasions, the US has blocked UN resolutions that would have helped many people, because they felt that it would adversely affect US businesses, when these resolutions were simply the enactments of the same laws that exist in the US. So many people feel that the US doesn't want others to live as good as they do.

The US uses up to a third of the world's resources, and seems to want to stay on top of the world.

Businesses, which are based in the USofA, but called MultiNationals because of all their out of US holdings, refuse to obey the laws and regulations of the countries they operate in. They also refuse to obey the laws and regulations of the USofA in those countries as well as the International Laws that the US has agreed their companies will adhere to. These companies often use workers like slaves, kept in company houses, forced to purchase from company stores, the children often starving. When these countries complain, they get pressure from the US Government to leave these companies alone.

This has happened over and over again all over the world.

Lastly I'll point out the environment. Islands and coastal lands are disappearing because the world is warming up. But your government doesn't seem to care that people are losing their homes and livelihoods.

Because of this, and other things that has happened, I could spend days writing a reply to your question, listing the things they have done, people all over the world have come to hae the US.

Sorry to tell you this, but I've been out here, and it is true.

However, having said all that.

Be yourself. It is known everywhere that there are good people in the us. Just go up and say hi. When they get to know you, they will like you.

Americans and Canadians don't hate each other! I would say that there are certainly some Canadians that dislike some American policies and political agendas. Just as there are some Americans that probably dislike things that go on in Canada. But you don't honestly think that everyone in USA acts exactly like the people on Jerry Springer do you? The same is true of the 30million OTHER Canadians and the 300million OTHER Americans who are not making bad comments about each other. One good point in your question/rant though. America has traditionally been Canada's biggest trading partner. Imagine you have a good friend and business partner. Lately that friend has been getting into financial trouble, maybe doing a bit too much gambling, or eating poorly, and not taking care of themselves. You know if they run into problems it could badly affect you too. Do you say something? Or do you just let them keep going down the same road until they have an accident? It's possible to criticize each other and try to guide each other without doing it out of anger or hatred for one another. Now you want hatred, why don't you try living in Israel, Gaza, or some other region where the neighbors hate you for your race, religion, or what tribe you are from. Canadians and Americans are not taking machetes to each other or launching missiles across the 49th parallel yet, are they?

I am US borne, I lived in Miami-Florida for seven years, before that, I lived in south America and recently move out of Florida for good to the UK, and now I look back to these past 7 years and even though I did my professional career there, I felt it was the 7 worst years of my live (social wise), because of this capitalistic systems I did not have many friends, everybody was busy, did not have a real girlfriend cause I did not have money to show and people saw me like I was a rat because I was poor “the more you have, the more you are” . And in the US, you can not pursued a university degree unless you come from a very wealthy family or live in debt for the rest of your life and if you become sick, you either have to have an insurance (very expensive if not paid by employer) or lived in debt for the rest of your live.

I think in the US, there is a culture to work but not culture to socialise with others, for example Drs see you as a number $ more than as a patient, i don’t want to generalise but i think the US system changes people into machines and blocks their mind form what is outside, most of the people I meet there, think that the US is the best country in every single way, without even visiting other countries, well I don’t blame then , with the little time off we had in Florida as listed on linked below, there is not time to visit any other countries,

Well, something else I realize when I was travelling Europe and south America, I noticed that most of Americans did not make any effort to a least speak the most common or used word in other languages and expect everybody to speak english as once a girl from Chicago told me “we are leaving the a globalisation world so everybody need to speak English”

In the other hand I think that economically wise US is great , my parents are doing financially very well so is my brother and most of the people I know, but unfortunately all the money they make and have, cant not even be enjoyed. I truly respect you opinion but I think that WE as “Americans” should see the world equally, change our minds, not because we are richest and have the economical power we have the right to abuse others and impose our system, ethics, morals as every country has their own and we should respect that.

I honestly don't have any idea of how to go about answering your first question but as for the last ones I've got ya covered!! Listen the thing is that if you are interested in Canadian men then you should be with them and if they can't get over the fact that you are an American then there is really no point in being with them because it really isn't that big of a deal. If you like a guy and he feels the same way it shouldn't matter to him if you have three arms and a lazy eye!

I am a Canadian who knows and has met many American people. Individually, most of the Americans I know or have met are lovely people with good and bad qualities just like everyone has. It is the collective America than I have a problem with. The American politics which seems to be of the opinion that anyone who is not exactly like them is "evil" and must be invaded and changed to be made to be like them. I blame the Bush administration for much of this propaganda since 9/11. Having said this, I also know, from the Americans I know, that many Americans are against the politics of the Bush administration. I have some friends in Michigan who actively rally against Bush and his foreign policies. I have a lot of respect for these people.

Maybe because of Hockey. We have more American Teams in the NHL than them, as we always have. We in turn get the greater number of the elite talent. Also, after winning the Stanley Cup a few times with the Oilers in Canada the Stars (Gretzky, Messier, and Coffey) all went to American Teams.
Partly because Americans always have made Canadian jokes (they never go to war etc.). (a positive for you to mention how...) Lateley the Baseball Team of Canada defeated America 8-6 in the World Baseball Classic. (my native Japan won it all) Get your Hockey knowledge up, and start drinking canadian beer. I think that would atract them. Also mention Steve Nash, the Point Guard for the Suns in the NBA, 2 years in a running now he has been the MVP. I think that you can tell them that you would like to change their impression of Americans. This should break the ice if all else fails. I am sure that approching them overall can not be all that much different from other men you have appoached. Good luck gal.

"Hate" is too strong a word. There is animosity - a feeling of not being comfortable with a country that is so globally active - always into other nations' business, alienating people all around the world with "God's on our side" wars that most people believe the States actually starts to secure their economic interests. And America seems to take more than their share of the global pie by using up resources around the world faster than the people in the countries that own those resources can get around to developing them. But I would say the percentage of Canadians who really dislike Americans is low - probably 15%. The rest, and I'm with them, identify with you people strongly for lots of reasons. We speak the same language and spring from a European past. But we do have a small popluation in comparison and it's hard to know where WE end and YOU begin when we try to define ourselves. Canadian men are really nice, in general, and I hope you find one who doesn't overreact to the overwhelming proximity of our powerful neighbour to the South.

I don't particularly hate Americans but I personally would never live in America the people there are treated as if they are mice in a cage awaiting some big experiment. I can't imagine having to search for my own health care and being afraid of every ugly guy that walks up behind me cause he might have a gun. The rules in America just seem too geared towards the government oppressing everyone who isn't rich by keeping everybody well fed and under appreciated, or hungry and dying.

Anyone who is that ignorant is not worth your time. I am sure there are some Canadians who are smart enough to take humans on one at a time and judge them individually. I hate Bush but I don't hate Americans. I hate Ahmadinejad but I don't hate Iranians. I hate Kim Jong-il but I don't hate North Koreans. Ignorant, petty and stupid. Next.

I think SMART people of any nationality do not judge people in GROUPS. People are individuals. Ihave known many Canadians who like American people as individuals. This business of one group of people hating another group of people does seem more common now...it is laziness...not getting to know others as individuals. Don't cheat yourself of the opportunity of making great friends ...just be accepting and non-judgemental of others...be friendly and don't give a second thought to race or nationality.
