i do not like the effect of using pencil unless you know exactly how to apply the pencil mark and blend the strokes. unless done correctly, the brows will not look natural and have a drawn like appearance with obvious pencil lines. but there are techniques and little tricks to using pencil and making it look like natural hair.

first of all, brush your eyebrows upwards with a small eyebrow brush so all the hairs go the same direction. when using pencil, instead of using the tip of the pencil to draw on your eyebrow, hold the pencil lightly and use light shading upward strokes so the lines look blended and more like actual hair. it is actually better to have a dull pencil with rounded tip than a sharp tip pencil that has recently been sharpened. if you had just sharpened your pencil, get tissue and rub the tip slowly to round it up.

also, always follow the hair direction and shape of your eyebrow. do not try to create another shape. pluck your brows to clean the underside and redefine its natural shape. i do not recommend that you change the natural shape of your brows unless it is done professionally. your eyebrows frame your eyes and your eyes are the first thing people notice when they look at you or talk to you. if this is not done right it will change your whole face.

remember, always use slanted upward strokes following the direction of each hair on your brows and each stroke would end up looking like tiny little hairs .... not artificial and too defined like a pencil line drawing.

another very subtle way of adding to your eyebrows is what professional make up artists do. they use eyeshadow that matches as close to your eyebrow shade. using a small bristle brush, they dip the tip of the brush on the powder lightly, tap the brush to remove loose powder and apply upward strokes along the brow. this makes the whole brow look soft and full.

and for the finishing, get a mascara that is as close to your eyebrow shade as you can find. remove the wand (brush) from the mascara and wipe it very well with tissue so as to remove as much of the thick mascara on it. what is left on the almost dried brush is a faint hue of the original color. then, brush your eyebrows with the mascara brush very slightly always on an upward stroke and only touching the hairs of your brows lightly. this will fill up your eyebrows and make it look thicker.

try practising these techniques and you will surely have thicker, fuller brows and beautiful eyebrows.

For filling them out, you can use an eyeliner pencil that matches your eyebrows--I've always used the kind that you sharpen like a pencil. Just fill in your eyebrows--don't go overboard, because less is better than too much--and then blend them in. You can use your finger or a kleenex or a washcloth, whatever. Just be sure to get a color that's a close match--that's really the key.

For a round face, don't use really dramatic eyebrows with a high arch, because that shape will look strange with your face shape. In general, it's best to follow the basic shape of your natural eyebrows. Just go with a gentle arch that accents your eyes and forehead.

Hope that helps!

Take some eyeshadow that most closely matches your eyebrow color and lightly fill them in.
