I look at them quickly, assess whether it's a friendly Hi or a hi, I want you to give me money... and say hi back, fairly quickly, while passing. Especially if it's a gimme money hi.

Well, actually, that's a funny question, because our parents teach us not to talk to strangers, actually they ingrain that into our minds at a young age, but it's also polite to say hello back. And I think I'm probably too nice for my own good, because I'm constantly saying hello to strangers... oh well. Have an awesome day :)

I normally say hi back shyly...but if I'm not in the mood to say anything I just smile and waved. Yeah most people think I'm weird but there's nothing wrong being friendly.

I usually say 'hi' back - it's so much easier to be nice than rude. The world could certainly use more friendliness
