Well, it would help me to know your age. If you're in your teens it could mean many things.
The knife could represent your father, and the mother could represent...your mom. Do your mom and dad fight a lot? That knife could also represent stabs of insult or demeaning words exchanged by both, but mostly directed to your mom. Or, it could be an image reflecting some sort of guilt for a possible hurt that your mom has indured by someone else, maybe if she works outside the home, it could be someone who speaks against her.
Not all dreams are of literal interpretation, as they're metaphores. Next time you dream that, when you awake, write the first thing that comes into your mind after you read what you've written. Do this word by word or sentence by sentence. Don't hesitate regarding your first thought, just write it and before long you'll have your answer.

It doesn't mean anything. I dreamt that since I was a little girl about 5-6 years old. I don't dream that as much anymore, and I'm just fine. I'm 19 now. My mom is fine too. My parents wound up getting divorced, but I strongly doubt that had anything to do with the dreams. Not to worry!

dreams are random. They usually reflect things you were thinking about that night...like you could be thinking of your mom and later thinking of a butcher cutting you meat at the store...the only way you will have to worry is if u have had sicic expierences in previous history

It might be something serious though, as someone else said, Google-search "dream interpretation" and see a counselor.
