i once ate at a place called the ye olde pancake shoppe and asked the waitress if she thought they went overboard with the extraneous e's....i got a blank stare.

Because The Queen's English is too complicated and out of date, and many words are better left out or shortened.
Also I hear that American English has now been made the Official World Language......
Who cares anyway as long as we can understand each other?

Colour is not English, it's derived from the silly Frances language.
Why can't ENGLISH learn to spell it the right way! Color!
And they're not Chips they're Fries
And it's not a lift is an Elevator
And if you DARE to ask to have a *** in the LIFT in American you will shocked old people to death!

It is English. All languages have dialects in which words are pronounced differently. Also, all languages evolve, according the the changes made in dialects. Eventually, the language we are currently speaking will be incomprehensible to those people living in what are now English-speaking areas.

Because the British saddled words with too many uncessary, useless letters. Examples:
Color
They decided to spell it Colour
We are more efficient, and the less letters you have to type, or write, the faster you can get on to the next task!

Because they are lazy, the stupid internet and text language has also come from america there is nothing worse it would take 2 seconds longer just to write the full word. what is the problem !
