That's just the way it is. The kids all grow up playing hockey when I say all I mean most. They do have the edge in having a lot of ice in the winter. and I know in some cities along with basketball courts they also have hockey rinks. when I was in Toronto I saw this fenced in area with boards can't remember if there were nets or not... but damn how I wished we had one in our neighborhood when I was young. we had to use the street, the basketball court or join a winter league.

As a cousin of Canada having grown up across the river in Buffalo, I can safely say that Canadians live and die for the sport. I know there's some debate as to whether lacrosse or hockey be recognized as the official sport.

A lot of my Canadian buddies tell me that it's basically a culture thing. Whereas in the US, it was traditionally baseball in the summer and basketball in the winter, for Canadians it's lacrosse and hockey. If you're not on the school team, you're not getting first crack at the babes. ;-)

It's our sport and it's our pride on the line, so Hockey Canada puts a lot of money, time, and effort into making gold medal contenders every tournament.
