I have a copper kettle that I clean on a regular basis with vinegar and salt. I make sure that I dont leave any residual vinegar and salt. It shines up really well, however by the next day it is already getting dark. What can I do to preserve the shine?

Salt, lemon, scrubber or flour & white vinegar.
To clean the bottom of copper bottomed pots and pans cover a freshly cut lemon with salt and scrub.
Mix equal parts of flour, and salt with enough white vinegar to make a paste. Let mixture stand on the copper, then rinse.
To polish use Catsup/ketchup. Be generous, scrub with a metal scrubbing pad, allow to sit for a few minutes, rinse and polish with a clean, dry cloth.

Try Barkeepers Friend, which you will find near Comet and Ajax in the Supermarket. It is a powder that you apply with a damp cloth and then rinse off. I believe it is gentle on copper and will help keep the shine. Read the label to be sure.

I just use plain ketchup or catsup (whatever). I rub it over the copper and let it sit for a few minutes. Wash it off with warm water and a sponge. It should do the job.
