Soccer is still growing in the U.S, and so it's going to be a bit before the US becomes any major threat. But, I think with time, they will eventually reach a good level to where they could be a very competitive and strong side.

I don't think they'll be the team to beat but they could be a top team. I think the problem here is that kids have the dream of playing college soccer and not pro. There's only 1 major league (MLS) and a smaller one (USL with 2 divisions) so there isn't much opportunity. In other countries people live sleep and dream soccer from day 1 and in the US there's many other things to do than to play soccer. While say a a top British year old's dream might be playing for Manchester Utd a top american player would be worried about playing for a top college. Unless the US starts sending their youngsters over before the age of 20, I highly doubt US Soccer will improve on MLS alone. We did take a step by getting Dempsey to Fulham and possibly Onyewu as well but they are already in the 20-25 range. However with the MLS taking numerous steps such as reserve league and developmental slots, players like Adu, Altidore, Besagno...must leave to Europe ASAP if they want to further their development.

1. There are many different answers to this. On one hand, the Pittsburgh steelers won 6 super bowls, but they also lost one. The cowboys have been to 8 and won 5, but the San Francisco 49ers have been to and won 5 super bowls, so they have the perfect record. 2. here is a quote from forbes: "Yes, England's prolific soccer team, Manchester United, is still the most valuable team in the world ($1.8 billion), but there are only four soccer teams (Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool are the others) worth over $1 billion. The NFL now has 19 teams worth that much, compared with five last year and none five years ago. The Dallas Cowboys stand at the top of our list as the most valuable team in the NFL, worth $1.6 billion..." That should give you an idea of how valuable the NFL is. 3. This matters by region. People living in the bay area (like me) would support the 49ers, but people living in Dallas would support the cowboys. Today the most popular is probably the New England (Boston) Patriots, having been to 4 super bowls this decade and won 3.

Im a big soccer fan as well and I asked this question once.
Unfortanently out of only 13 answers or so 10 people said no
Most Americans dont understand it and arent enthusiastic about it
If soccer was big like football(American) or baseball we would win because if America gets really exited about something we will prevail.
Its just like the war, The people hate it so we dont do well

With a new coach coming in, it's going to be hard to say. The USA doesn't have anywhere close to the fan base that other countries have, so it's harder our players to get pumped up to play for a country that doesn't really care if they win or not. And I love the point about our keeper. Tim Howard is a very good goalie, but being a keeper myself, I know how hard it is to save 5,6,7 or more shots a game consistently. But it all comes down to the USA's front line. They did not score a single goal in all three games they played (the OG on Italy not counting). If Landon Donavon can step up and get the rest of the strikers to get up to their top playing ability, they could be a team to be wary of in 2010, but I don't see them getting past the Quarter-Finals.

Hmm, good question... Maybe in the future. The U.S. team might really have possibilities now cuz they have a new coach, not that lame Bruce Arena that couldn't take them far! But the only team the U.S. team plays good is when they go against their sworn enemies--Mexico! Yeah, that's the only time around when they charge their batteries and just get moving up and around the field. U.S. a great force? Not any time soon. But you should never underestimate them. It's just a matter of time.

NO...DOUBT IT...futbol (soccer in US) is the greatest sport everywhere else in the world except here....Americans thing is football and hardly any of them support soccer...I LOVE SOCCER BUT THE US LEAGUE WILL NEVER BE SUFFICIENTLY SUPPORTED AS FOOTBALL OR BASKETBALL....also as seen in the 2006 FIFA worldcup....the US was definately one of the least supported teams out there...they need more fans.
