Try candor. Speak to the surgeon and be honest about your financial situation. You might get a break. Your surgeon just might write off the last 3 thou.

See if you can have the surgery and pay what medicare doesn't pay by installment. I know they don't like to do it. If it isn't paid by the time you die they could take any personal property you might have. I had to do that once and it is all paid now. It was a much bigger amount. Things happen to the best of us. I have insurance now by the grace of God. There are people that get it paid that deserve it less than we do.

Most hospitals accept Medicare's payment as payment in full.

If he hasn't paid his Medicare deductible, then that will be due to the hospital. If this amount is a problem, talk to the hospital's billing people.

You can finance it or see if the hospital and doctors will accept what Medicare pays. We have the worst medical care of any civilized country while Bush has no worries.

Can you purchase a supplemental insurance policy for a year or two or six months? AARP has a pretty good Medicare supplemental policy. If you don't have alot of assets, file for Medicaid in your state. If you do have alot of assets, start depleting them (give money to your kids and have them hold it for you in case you need it ---- IF you can trust them lol) so you can apply for Medicaid in a year or two

Most hospitals have a social worker that can help you figure out how to pay for things if there is a way.

Don't you LOVE republicans? They cut everything, healthcare programs, medicare, all kinds of help for people who need it. But they give give give corporate welfare to pharma companies and insurance companies...

Vote.

One thought would be to contact your local hospital or social services office. Find an Social Worker/Advocate thru senior services in your community. There maybe help there.
