In the movie the chancellor tells Anakin that he was the one who killed Plagueis and that he knows the secret to life and death. Of course later he tells him that he does not know the secret but that they will find it out together. In all likelihood there is no Darth Plaguious but the story helped to sway Anakin to the dark side. The chancellor loves to lie.

There is an answer to this in Episode III. In the scene where Chancellor Palpatine (aka - Darth Sidious) is at a "concert," he told Anakin "The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise." In this story, Palpatine revealed that not only was he Darth Plagueis' apprentice, but that he himself was the one who killed him.

I don't think so although it is possible i suppose. The virgin birth of Anakin was meant to symbolize him being the messiah to the Jedi.
