What happened to groups like Boys to Men and TLC. (I know what happened, but where are their follow-ups?). Heck, even those teeny bopper, bubble gum groups like Backstreet Boys and N Sync had some songs that had a little Motown sound. Nowadays, seems like all we have is Mary J Blige (can't get into her sound) and that new jack sound, but no true R&B. Can anyone suggest any crooners or great balladeers putting out tunes today?

Well I wouldnt call Boys to men or TLC R&B they were both great, but definetly hip hop darlin'
Actually, Fantasia's got some pretty good stuff, so does Erika Badu, Jill Scott, and man do I want to hear more from the heavy set co-star of Dream Girls. Damn, girlfriend can sing!
But I feel your question, where are all the Billy Holidays, Ella Fitzgeralds, Aretha, Diana Ross, even Macey Gray.
It's not easy finding true "soul" in music today. and as gorgeous a voice as Mary J. has, she has become too mainstream bubblegum for my taste. I stick to C.D.s instead of the radio.
Actually Sade's (Shar-day) music can still be considered today and R & B, and fantastic!

I wish! All I can suggest is giving Alicia Keys, Jill Scott and India Arie a try.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who just can't get into Mary J Blige.

We may not have good R&B groups out any more but we still have good R&B solo artists like Neyo Usher Mariah Carey and plenty more its just that they dont promote those artists out enough because all the rap crap is selling and it makes more money unlike artists like Alichia Keys and India Arie and all them I think thats very sad i really do =(

Heaven has all of our good R&B singers. I'm glad I am a child of the 70's. Soul music rocked back then!
