There were a group of friends on TV that went a year without buying anything except for a few categories like food. I think I could make it a couple of months not sure about a year. How long long could you go?

I could go for a while, but a complete prohibition on non-food purchases would really affect my ability to earn a living. If I were prevented from fixing or replacing tools that broke or buying books when I needed to read up on something I would be in a serious bind.
