THis is exactly what happend to me the 1rst time I used it I would go to apple.com and technical support but to save you some time ill just copy and paste it for you
Step 1: Make sure your iPod is charged
Make sure your iPod is fully charged and then toggle the Hold switch on and off.
To reset your iPod nano (2nd generation):
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

Make sure it's charged and then if it's still frozen, hook it up to your computer. If still frozen, try reinstalling the iPod software that you installed in the first place. You can get that from the ipod website if you misplaced the CD. If still frozen, throw a $hit fit for the hell of it. then go to your local Apple store and they'll fix it or call Support.

I don't have an ipod, but on my mP3 there is a reset button. On mine I have to use a pin or paperclip end to reset it. My MP3 just froze last night I reset it and was good to go. If that doesn't work, take it back or call the customer support.

The first answer is exactly what you should do. That has happened to my ipod countless times, and all you have to do is plug it into your charger. Don't know why, but it works every time. You don't have to do those long lists of things those other people said. Good luck!

www.apple.com/support
Try to resolve the issue if not call tech support you will be in your first 90 days for free tech support 1800myapple. If you purchased the product directly from apple and it is found it needs to go in for repair, request that it be declared DOA and you will be sent a new one. If you got it from a resller then you have to go by there return policy.most resellers dont return apple products but Apple will send it in for repair and replace it with a refurb model

Do you know the top button on the iPod? Push it to the left. If it is on the right, it means that it is on hold.

There is a way to reset it. Go to the apple website and look it up in help. They will tell you exactly what to do. Calm down.
