Mine has 5/8" deflection, as called for in the owner's manual (1980 CB750K).
Use the manual for yours to get the proper specification.

A good rule of thumb is, one fingers height. meaning when you push up/down on the chain it should only move the height of your finger, which most peoples are between 15-18cm or 5/8-3/4 of an inch, my Yamaha mech. told that to me.

no more than 11/2" deviation top to bottom. Really it matters on the length of the chain on what size of bike. You should let a bike shop tell ya.
