The Core 2 Duo is a dual core processor, meaning there are two processors on the die. The AMD Sempron uses a larger die the the Intel, meaning it uses more electricity (which outputs more heat, which computers hate) The Intel will also outperform the Sempron, being there are essentially two processors to the AMD's one. The Intel will be better if you multi task, i.e., have multiple applications running at the same time. Even though the AMD is cheaper, you will get more bang for your buck going with the Intel. You have no idea how much this is killing me, recommending the Intel system, as I am and AMD fan boy.

Both the Intel Core 2 Duo and the AMD Semperon are good processors. The Intel Core 2 Duo is Intel's latest generation of processors and has been receiving very good press. It's what Apple is putting in most of its new computers. The dual core is like having two processors running in parallel.

The AMD Semperon is AMD lower end processor, filling the same niche as the Intel Celeron processor. They are good and popular processors, and you can save a lot of money. Until the release of the Intel Core Duo and Intel Core 2 Duo processors, AMD was often considered to have a better price to performance ratio. The Intel Core series of processors have come on strong and are changing that perception.

If you're just going to surf the web and listen to MP3's either would do fine. If your going to be doing something very processor intensive like encoding videos, or running PhotoShop, you may want to opt for the Intel Core 2 Duo.

By the way, have you thought of buying a laptop? The prices have become reasonable, they're very portable, and wireless connectivity is built into most of them which is a real boon to users.

well being a big fan of amd id say the second one is better buut ill be non biased and just go ahead and tell you, the first one is an intel core 2 duo, meaning it has 2 cores it has twice the power say its 1.6GHz then that in dual core would mean its double the power so the first one is better but besides that the second one is sold out and its a different brand and its only a single core
