your not the only one.....
Yes! My 2002 Escape has had the same problems. I get the 4 flashes followed by the 7 flashes of my airbag light for the past month. Its also happened to me about 1.5 years ago. Ford Repair shop wants 125$ up front for diagnostics before deciding if i will be covered on my extended warranty. It is a seriose problem in that the airbag will not work should you get into an accident. Since i am over my 36000 mile warranty I called Ford Directly to find out if it is covered under the Passenger Restraint Warranty.

I have a 2004 Escape and I have the same issue happening! It either blinks or stays on. I took it in and I think it's a fuse but I was having some issues at the time so I chose to fix that instead of the fuse.
So yeah you're not alone.

Occupancy classification. Look that up. The seats have anchors on them to read the weight of the passenger. Then the airbag deploys to the amount of weight, and severity of the accident. If this malfunctions, it could cause the blinking. an 04 should still be under warranty. 3 year 36,000 mile.

i have an '06 and we thought something was wrong with it when it flicked on and off, that is, until we realized the weight in the passenger seat is connected to the light. when my friend sits there, the light is off, when the dog perches there, considerably lighter than my friend, the light is on.
yours may be a bigger problem, but you never know, we didnt catch the obvious 'error' until the dog showed us. Stupid us, i know, but hey, sometimes you dont notice things until they jump out at you.
