Are there any web sites or books I can read? Or should I go out and join a talent agency in Los Angeles? Should I get a picture portfolio of myself? What should I do?

Study acting for 10-12 years, before considering getting an agent. Agents want to see resumes with substantial experience.

Actors do NOT use picture portfolios.

Learn about the acting business. Take workshops, classes, anything that will help you understand the industry.

Send headshots and resume to legit talent agents. Take a long trip to LA to go to as many auditions as possible.

You do not necessarily have to have a huge resume already, but you need to start getting as much experience as you can in community theatre, workshops, classes, etc.

Research websites and books online. You should get a nice professional headshot or four.
