I own tons of snakes and am about to get a brand new rhino viper, and a yellow anaconda. I am having trouble affording tanks for them ,I see pictures in J_parker1167, and other snake owners photobucket albums there snakes are kept in Slide in drawers and RubberMaid tins, how do you keep a snake in something like that?

well for a viper (which is a hot, or venomous snake) you first want to see if it is LEGAL in your state/county/town, as if not, you can be fined huge amounts, and if the snake bites and kills someone, you WILL be jailed!
So you don't want to go cheap, you want a good, sturdy, LOCKABLE cage.
As for a conda, you will need a LARGE (Like a small room) with a HUGE water bowl (more like one of those metal stock tanks) for them, while they aren't aquatic, they move more easily and spend lots of time in the water. You will want a small room, or a cage made out of THICK plastic or wood (thats sealed) with a plexi glass top, as opening from the front (unless it's opened from the top going down) can be dangerous if it decides you are food.
My advice is, if you can't afford the caging, don't get the snake, especially hots, as the anti-venom alone can cost well over 1,000 dollars.

I have already looked into owning a venomous snake. It requires liability insurance which cost an arm and a leg to get. Then there are the laws in your area that need checking into. As for the anaconda, if you have a spare corner in a large room, and you own the house, you can build a large enclosed area for the snake. You wont have to buy a tank for it. I have seen a large snake bust its' tank just by curling up and puffing up its body. Not a good idea to put such a large snake into a glass aquarium.

Well you start out by bulding a frame for the totes your going to use. I typically use the sweater size rubber maid totes for my snakes and spiders and other critters. Figure out the size your going to use. My rack holds four different size tote boxes small, medium, large and extra large. When building your rack you want to make sure each section is just big enough to slide the box into the slot. That way the animal can't push the top off. You don't need top line lumber to build this but it helps if your going to have it where very one can see it. Mine sit's in my living room and is built out of pine and is stained a cherry oak color and is very nice looking. I have strip lights built into the back so it illuminates the boxes from the back side so you can see what is inside the boxes. Just make sure you have air holes drill through the lids or your animals could die.

How are you gonna pay for anti-venom?
You think owning venomous snakes is easy? Or cheap?
And anacondas get HUGE!!!
They eat goats!
How are you gonna afford that?
If you can't afford the cage, you can't afford the pet.
Keep in mind that your electricity and feed bills will go up. Also, vet bills are expensive. Do you have money for that?

If you can't afford tank, you need to quit. Seriously. This post makes me sick to my stomach! You need to think twice before you put the life of an animal in your hands. If you can't provide it with optimal conditions, you need to find someone who will.

i know how you could afford a bin, get rid of your snakes and all the disease-ridden varmints they eat. you'll have a ****load of cash rolling in to buy as many bins and buckets as you can find.
