my son cut his finger a week ago. i took him to the ER where they glued his wound shut. they gave him a splint and said to keep it on for 7 days. my question is this: how does the glue come off? does it wear off? do we have to go back to the Dr for them to do somethnig else? it's been one week, the splint came off and the wound looks like it's healing ok. he's had no complications or fever or anything.

Basically, the glue is surgical grade Super Glue. You don't have to do a thing, it just wears off. Obviously the wound healed well and your son had no complications. When I had my surgery, before I left the hospital, the doctor took out my staples, placed the glue on the incision and sent me home. I had absolutely no trouble. My scar is barely noticeable now.

The manufacturers of the skin glue also manufacture a skin glue remover. However in practice this is hardly every needed because the skin glue will come off as the top layer of skin cells dies and is shed. This is usually over the course of a week or two.

Children, of course, love to pick at the glue and this is another way it comes off - it is to be discouraged, however, as they can upset the wound and open it up again.

The cut heals from the inside out and as it heals it pushes the glue out, my husband had it about 2 months ago
