The population problem we have is that we aren't birthing enough newborns to keep up with the aging baby boomers. This is causing a problem with our social security program and other stuff. As far as immigration issues, we have plenty of land for people to live. The reason we have restraints on people just coming over whenever they want is just for purely bureaucratic/government issues. The United States has more than enough land and resources to deal with a larger population but it has to be regulated. Imagine, you've got huge states like North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, etc that have populations under 1 million people. Sure, there state governments couldn't handle a huge influx of people but if handled correctly it could be a benefit as in tax dollars, etc....
