My ex-wife sent me an e-mail containing information that she could have only found if she broke into my private e-mail account. Her name is not on the account. Is this illegale? Can I file charges against her?

Yes, there are federal laws against tampering with any computer system - that would include a password protected email account. She could face serious federal charges, if you can prove she did it.

Yes it is illegal. Change your email password immediately. Create multiple email accounts for yourself and don't even let her know the new email addresses. This way you diversify the potential danger. Ex-wives don't own you, except your money. It is time to fight back, get a good lawyer and file charges against her, and get your money back from her, plus interest.
