I've always had this dream of finding an old farm house with a little farm/ acreage that needed some work. Nothing fancy, and I'm not picky about location. But I'm having a very hard time getting started in my search. If anyone could refer me to any websites that list old houses for sale (besides mansions) or have any ideas on how to get started I would really apreciate it, thanks!

Go to craiglists.org and look in the real estate section or post that you are looking for an old farm house. Also go to some of the barter web sites. It's possible you might be able to barter your way to a free or almost free old farm house.

Call Realtors in locations that you are interested in and see what they have to say. They will be able to give you good advice on what to expect to pay.

Keep your eye out when driving, because often these homes are sold by the owners. Also inform friends that live in different places around the country to keep their eyes peeled. The more people you have looking the more likely you'll find one.

I also have this dream, but I'm not old enough just yet to make it a reality.

Unless you live right in the middle of a huge city, you should ask a local realtor. Realtors list a variety of properties, and they are qualified to help you in your search. To search on your own initially, I enjoy using realtor.com which features listings from many companies. You can specify your search to specific price ranges, locales, and include the criterion of land/acreage.

You can check out www.realtor.com and then click on the link for more search options, contact a local agent to see if they can find something for you, or check some of the For Sale By Owner websites (FSBO.com, Buyowner.com, etc.)

decide what part of the country you are interested in, decide how much you want to spend, contact an agent. Look through the websites mentioned in the other responses and check out properties in foreclosure and also tax sales.
