does anyone know the best way to treat a cold?

Well, I can tell you right off the bat that there's no point in buying any of the cold medicines because I have found that none of them cure me. It still takes the same amount time for the cold to go away when I've taken the medicine and when I don't.

I personally buy ginger root. Peel it and cut in small pieces (it doesn't have to be a huge piece) let it boil in a small pot on low fire for at least half hour. Fill the pot with water because it will consume. The water will become tinged yellow. Add sugar to taste and drink as hot as you can. You will feel your nasal passage clear up by the time you finish your tea. And within the next couple of hours you will start coughing up or sneezing phlegm (I know it sounds nasty, but that's what helps me). And you continue to drink it through out the day until your cold clears up. It's going to be spicy but give it a try because I am a true believer that it loosens all the phlegm and clears the cold up. Makes you sweat too.

Now my brother doesn't believe in taking medicines or teas, so I'll tell you what he does. He covers his head with one of those winter hats and he doesn't take off (not even to go to bed) and drinks lot of Orange juice But not the concentrated stuff. And he swears by this.
I hope you feel better soon. And let me know what you tried and what worked. Especially if it was one of my suggestions.
Good Luck!

Once you get a cold, you have to let it run it's course.

When I feel symptoms coming on, I take Alka Seltzer Cold Plus for 2 days straight, every 4 -6 hours. I haven't had a full fledged cold in 10 years.

OK, once, but I bruised my ribs snowboarding and the Darvocet didn't mix well with the Alka Seltzer. A sneeze snuck up on me and I thought I was going to die.

Lot's of rest, drink plenty of fluids (water, juices). If you have body aches, take aspirin or ibuprofen and if your nose is stuffy, take a decongestant. The most important thing is to rest. Your body cannot heal itself if you don't give it a chance.

I go nuts on the citrus fruits and juices to try and shake it faster. Get the good stuff (not from concentrate) and just keep drinking it.

Hot whiskey or hot bourbon or hot brandy or similar. You'll still have the cold, but you won't care about as much.
