I have been in countlees Yankees game in the bronx were the sox were also playing, no one remember seen the crow hating the visiting team as they do in Boston. Is it true that Newyorkers could not give it %$%# about Boston? Is this upsetting the rex team?

to be a rivalry the teams have to be somewhat competitive. the sox don't really seem capable of holding up their end of the deal, 26 championships to 1 in the past 89 years. sox fans like to call it a rivalry because they feel it brings their team up to the Yankees level. Yankees fans, on the other hand view the sox as wanna bees which the results cited previously support. the sox championship in 2004 is just a start, the sox have a lot more work ahead of them before they can be considered true rivals. another thing to consider is attitude. sox fans want to beat the Yankees. Yankees fans want to win championships and couldn't give a rats a-- what the sox do.

I don't envy the Yanks get off your arrogant high horse. I love baseball.
I am a Red Sox and Mets fan and I love the competition of any ballgame. Have to admit there is nothing like the atmosphere of the Boston/New York games. Other then that I pretty much get over a win or loss fairly quick. Turn the channel, if at home and find another game. Life goes on, even in the world of baseball.

PS. I think Jeter and Bernie Williams are great for baseball, now does that sound like I hate the Yanks. Why do people keep asking this...never mind I know

EDIT: in 1903 The Boston Americans played in what was considered the 1st modern World Series vs. The Pittsburgh Pirates. Boston won. Cy Young and a few more historical greats were in that game.
In 1904 The Boston Americans played in the World Series against the New York Highlanders. Boston won. This game is what made the World Series a fixture in todays sports, and The Permanent Fall Classic.
The Reason becasue that other New York team (Giants) refused to play as they did not regard the Highlanders as a worthy team and feared they might be beat. Did not want to give them any noteriaty.
These teams were later named: The Boston Red Sox and The New York Yankees. The rivalry goes back past Ruth, but it is responsible for some of the greatest baseball we have today.
That might even include the songs at the park if you like them as the Boston Royal Rooters sang Tessie. It is now song by the Dropkick Murphys.
So, envy, no, I love my Red Sox just as they are, it is a totally different experience then being a Yankee fan. They have a unique and storied history. Plus, it was worth the wait.

I dont think the Red Sox "Envy" the Yankees. I just think they in general terms dont much like the Yankees because circumstance has involved them being on the receiving end of a lot of misery inflicted BY the Yankees. But They have inflicted a good amount of damage on the Yankees too. I think if any team in Baseball didnt "envy" the Yankees, its the Red Sox.... I think they Respect the Yankees, and fear them a little.. Just like the Yankees Respect The Red Sox and Fear them a little.... i think if both teams had to face one team to get to the WS or win a Championship, tho those games and series are great for us the viewer, the teams, they would NOT want to face each other.... Mutual fear and respect..but i dont see "envy".

I dont think that 5 game Sweep engenders "Envy" from Boston..it just increases the level of Anymosity between the teams, which is great for us watching.. because regardless what they think in the Western US or Midwest or Southern, Baseball really is ore fun when THe Yankees and Red sox are fighting for Position... and when things like that 5 game sweep happen...it just means that the next time they meet...there will always be a chance for all hell to break loose on the field LOL.. and who doesnt love that between them!!?

And yes, it's true, the Yankee fans think alot Less about the Boston team than Boston fans seem to think about the Yankees. Alot of things Boston Does are to Counter or with the Yankees in mind, whereas the Yankees tend to do things JUST to improve their team.

My biggest problem with Boston fans is when they say Yankees try to buy championships. Atleast now it pisses me off. They are paying 100 mill for a guy who has not thrown one ball to a better then average major league hitter other then maybe Ichiro if he had every pitched against him when they played in Japan at the same time. Then they are going to pay JD Drew way more then he deserves. They sign Lugo for a lot of money and he hasn't proved that he can be an elite short stop. Compare the offseasons of Yankees to Red Sox while this year its the Red Sox over paying players in hope of a championship. The rest of baseball fans can say Yankees try to buy championships as long as they include the Red Sox now. Even though you cant really "buy championships" you still have to have the right mix of players that get along something the Yankees have been missing. Something they Yankees have also started to figure out. Watch this year as Red Sox will be the players at each others throats and the Yankees will be the team gelling and pushing their way to number 27.

Im a die hard sox fan and can tell you envy is not a feeling I get when hearing the yankees I believe I feel like most of the country when I say I hate the yankees because georgeie has ruined the game with his lofty payrolls over the past 12 years and I hate to say it but he has put red sox ownership and management in the same boat paying out big bucks just to compete, because of the yankees teams with owners that cant afford to spend like them dont have a shot and never will unless there is a cap structure, something more that a luxury tax I would call it more new york over inflated ego than red sox envy

Man, you are gonna get so many different opinions from this question. Guess who's side I'm on!! LoL. The rivalry goes way back in history and once you take your side, nothing can tear you from it. Yes I do hate the Yankees. But whether you're a Yankees or Red Sox fan, you gotta know that this whole rivalry is great for baseball and the American economy. I hate the Yankees for the same reasons that most BoSox fans do. Their "No $ limit payroll", fact that Big Stein thinks that he can pick anybody out of the pond to lead his greed team, and also the fact that Yankees fans think that the entire baseball world revolves around them. With that said, I'm sure many Yankees fans can fire back at me saying, "You accuse us of overspending?? Look at Matsuzaka!!", but they gotta say what they must to support their team.

I will say that Even though I do hate the Yankees, I respect what some of their players, specifically Jeter have done. Have to admit that he's a guy you just can't say anything wrong about. Keep the Rivalry Forever man!!

Maybe it has something to do with the fact the greedy Red Sox ownership at the time traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees for cash. The Red Sox had won 5 of the last 6 World Series before that trade I believe? (I am not a Beantown resident so I am not sure about that) After that it took them 86 years to win another one, while the Yankees were busy winning 26 or something like that, it's the Curse of the Bambino!!

I don't know about what you wrote but I think the envy is more or less universal in the AL only because of our success and our Championships. No other team draws the crowds that the Yankees do when they come to town. Every AL team wants to beat us so bad that their offseason is made up of moves to counter what the Yankees do. Look at what the Bosox did this winter. They bid an incredible amount of money for a unknown to MLB pitcher. That was to counter anything the Yanks would do. Everything the Bosox does is to counter/ one up the Yanks.

It's funny. I am a New Yorker (from the Bronx) and I HATE the Yankees (am a Mets fan). However, whenever I travel to New England and they see my New York plates, people...especially in Massachusetts, give me that dirty look. Okay, I entered "Red Sox Nation", but geez.

Funny thing is, when I tell them I hate the Yankees..they begin to mellow, even to the point if I am in a bar (and this happened to me in New Bedford, Mass) and there was a Yankee-Red Sox game and I root for the Sox, people in the bar were buying me up alcohol! They couldn't believe it.

The Red Sox peeps shouldn't feel so bad now..the "curse" is over.
