The Island of Formosa was annexed by China during the 1600s. Following the defeat of the Chines Nationalists by Chairman Mao and the Communists in (I think 1947) The Nationalists fled the Chinese mainland as a government in exile (Taiwan) In the 1970's the US accepted the Chinese communist government and Taiwan has since fallen out of favor.

Pretty much the same place where it has been since the war. I do not think it has moved. The main island of Taiwan, sometimes also referred to as Formosa , is located off the coast of the territories administered by the People's Republic of China, south of Japan and north of the Philippines. It is bounded to the east by the Pacific Ocean, to the south by the South China Sea and the Luzon Strait, to the west by the Taiwan Strait and to the north by the East China Sea. The island is 394 kilometers (245 miles) long and 144 kilometers (89 miles) wide and consists of steep mountains covered by tropical and subtropical vegetation. It has been a part of China for centuries and is considered by Red China to be a rogue province.

It was in the same place. I don't think they moved it. Islands don't float. They're attached.
