Wow, I know exactly what your talking about. Now its bugging me too. I remember the conversation but i can't think of what the commercial was for.
Little Girl: Daddy, why is the sky blue?
Daddy: Well, to match your pretty eyes.
Little Girl: Nope, not even close. See all colors are defused by oxygen and nitrogen and since blue is the shortest wave length, it's defused up to 10 times more.
Daddy: Who taught you that?
Little Girl: Mommy.

As I remember that commercial, it went,
Little Girl: Why is the sky blue, Daddy. Why is the sky blue?
Dad: Well, the sky is blue because...hmm, why IS the sky blue?
I think it was a commercial for an encyclopedia, but I don't remember which one.
