According to brain scientists, our subconscious doesn't let our conscious mind in on the decision process.
In an experiment, activity in the primitive brain always occurs first; meaning BEFORE the higher brain works on a problem.
Thus, decisionmaking actually is lead by our primitive, emotional side. The higher, rational brain just paints a rosy explanation for it afterwards.
Brain scans of this show the same pattern every time.
The "rational" side has language, the primitive does not.
We act because our primitive desires and fears compell us to act. The "rational" mind is a puppet on a string that uses language to "rationalize" behavior.

Does a map control the dice? Well sort of. I like to be as spontaneous as can in live but there are certain parts of my day that need to be organised.

Difficult one that?
I don't think anyones life is mapped out though because unexpected things always happen.
I thought my life was going well:-
Best job I've ever had, nice home, new girlfriend, then a problem with the law which may mean I'll Iose the job and have to move house.
However, every cloud has a silver lining.
Who knows what lays ahead. Not Me!

Age-old question Mohawk regarding free-will or impeccably pre-programmed, and for me it's the age-old cop out of "a mixture of both".
Our genetic inheritances greatly influence our physical make-up which in turn determine our life-choices, but not to such an extent that no choice always exists.
So I'm quite firmly impaled on the the fence between the two camps (and consider myself lucky until they start shooting each other 'cos I get it in the head with the first bullet fired).

I think it's an interesting combination of both. Certain decisions that we make are more primal: who you're attracted to, what activities you enjoy. Others have to be more mapped out, like what type of career you want to have or where you want to go to school. We need to know the difference between those types of decisions because if we use too much logic or too much instinct then our life will be out of wack.

No, our life is not mapped out. There is no fate, even though it may sometimes seem there is.
