Filipinos don't know just how good a country they live in. My wife cuts a flower, sticks it in the ground, and the darn thing grows. The many fruit varieties!!! and all so good.

On the other hand, I call Philippines the land of concrete. everywhere you look are concrete houses, concrete roads and concrete lumps. I wish Filipinos would take care of their land and not throw garbage in the rivers, fix their smoky vehicles and put tail lights on them. I wish they had more originality - 50 stores side by side all selling the same thing does not make anybody rich.

The food is first class and so are the Hotels and resorts,,I especially loved Boracay,,there are 7,107 islands to choose from,,so I personally recommend visiting the Philippines,,I am sure you will enjoy the vast cultral differences that are on offer

I AM AN EX-CITIZEN OF THE PHILIPPINES WHO HAVE BEEN LIVING AWAY FOR A 26 YEARS.GOING BACK FOR A HOLIDAYS TO VISITS A RELATIVES IS THE BEST THING.BUT SITE SEEING IS NOT WHAT IT IS USED TO BE.THE FLOW OF TOURIST IS VERY LOW COMPARE TO VIETNAM .WHEN I WAS YOUNG IN MANILA.I USED TO SEE A LOTS OF WESTERNER BUT MY LAST VISIT VERY FEW.MABINI ARE THE HAVEN FOR A TOURIST.EVEN LUNETA.BUT NOW THOSE PLACES ARE SO UGLY AND RUN DOWN.MOST WESTERNER I KNOW PREPARES TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IN ASIA LIKE VIETNAM,BALI OR THAILAND BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORE TO OFFER THAN THE PHILIPPINES.FILIPINO CULTURE ARE LONG DEAD AND GONE.YOU DONT SEE PEOPLE WEARING A TRIBAL COSTUMES LIKE THE RAJAS OR THE DATUS OR EVEN MARIA CLARA'S.THE BEAUTY OF THE PHILIPPINES TO SEE HAVE A HIGH PRICES.EVEN THAT WILL BE VERY HARD TO FIND THESE DAYS.MY ADVICE IS NOT TO VISIT THE PHILIPPINES.SO YOU WONT BE HASSLE FOR MONEY BY A YOUNG BEGGARS AND BE MUG AT.FOR THE FOODS YOU WOULD NOT EAT BLOOD JELLY OR PIG LUNGS.THERE ARE MCDONALD,PIZZA HUT AND KFC WHICH IS NOT A FILIPINO FOODS.I FEEL ASHAME TO TELL MY FRIENDS OR A NEW FRIENDS WHEN THEY ASKS ME ABOUT MY MOTHER COUNTRY.I CAN'T TELL THEM TO VISIT THE PHILIPPINES AND YOU WILL GOING TO HAVE A GOOD TIMES.I WILL SAY TRY VIETNAM EVEN THOUGH THAT THERE WILL BE A LANGUAGE PROBLEM.ITS SO SAD TO SEE THE COUNTRY OF MY BIRTH GOING DOWN THE DRAIN LIKE THE RUBBISH IN EVERY RIVER N STREET.7000 ISLANDS OF NOTHING.WHICH ONE IS SAFE AND NOT A HAVEN FOR INSURGENTS OR A TRAINING CAMP FOR TERRORIST.SHAME ON EVERY ONE IN POWER.THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO BRING BACK THE TRUE NATURE OF THE PHILIPPINES.

I was just thinking about this the other day, despite not even being American. Yes, 'White Americans' should be referred to as 'European American'. If everyone else has to have their continent of origin slapped in front of the nationality in your race-obssessed country, so should White people. 'Native Americans' should not even need the 'Native' at the front because they are the true AMERICANS!

well, here, from my observation as a teenager in the philippines:

in terms of "how native" the philippines is, at present, it's not that much anymore, that is, in urban areas, everything is "westernized" it can be said already that the philippines is a "a little america" with an appreciable amount of people called "little brown americans. (term from sunstar editorials)" it has been the country's state.

just like how from colonial times (history of the philippines, teodoro agoncillo) the mestizo felt superior to the natives but inferior to the spaniards. the philippines natively is malayan in race. but since the spanish colonization, has been infested with mixed race: asian, spanish, american, and every race you can think of.

but the greatest influence is that of the United States. clothing, dining experiences, music, show business. it is rare to hear a filipino, of any gender or age, to speak in straight tagalog. it is most of the time a mixture of english or chinese, showing the greater influences of such races and ethnicities.

english and/or chinese (for chinese families) mastery is encouraged even first in childhood, abandoning the true Filipino, who has now been almost annihilated. what is a Filipino of today but a mixture of races. a mixture of culture from foreign land. a tradition brought all the way from the spaniards. Even the term "Filipino" and the derivation of the country's name Philippines is of Spaniard descent (i.e., King Philip II).

the spanish rule was in a form of regime, bringing oppression and social stratification or caste systems (i.e., based on race or race mixtures and accumulation of wealth) to the country which has a great influence later on up to the present though not officially recognized.

Then came the Americans bringing western civilization (i.e, the idea of liberty) Just like how they are doing now in Iraq, how history does repeat itself. then the Philippines has started a commonwealth (the United States' technical term for colony) since 1898 under the United States until its independence in 1946: July 4th which also is their declared independence (month and day) from Great Britain, which is now officially recognized as "friendship day" with the United States.

So, what does that leave the Filipino? a mixture of American and Filipino (entirely influenced by Spanish colony) culture. Traditions from the spanish influence is still honored up to now, hence, town fiestas and thanksgiving parades all over the country.

However, there are ethnicities that the above mentioned colonizers haven't touched, and those are the aetas for one. the remaining true Filipino inhabitants which are now recognized as aboriginal inhabitants of this country, distinct from the Filipinos of today.

Aetas still live in remote rural areas, some still haven't experienced technology, for some have already been exposed due to missionaries from various cities. there are still Filipinos living the Malay experiences as you may call it, you would see them most in piers beside boats about to leave or to dock, diving for money or any other commodities you are willing to throw unto the sea. they live and travel with their little boats known as "bangka."

there are still other Philippine inhabitants living in remote rural areas living the malayan experience, cut from technology and western civilization, but, almost wiped out, again called ethnic groups. but they are the true remaining connection to the history of this malayan archipelago.

there are still natural resources left for sight-seeing though, like beaches, and land resources which would include the Banaue Rice Terraces which is the pride of the Philippines, beaches public and private, most famous are the commercial ones of course, but most beautiful are those uncultivated. volcanoes still exist. waterfalls still flow. these are the remaining legacies of this archipelago. the people, following the culture and traditions, are very much vague already again because of mixed influences.

There is no beauty in the Philippines. Lots and lots of garbage everywhere. The air is so polluted and everything stinks.
The only culture is drinking rum and singing videoke off key. Way off key.
