I'm about to move out for the first time and I wanted to make sure I have everything. Does anyone know of a good list to follow?

Aside from personal belongings (clothes, bedding, toiletries, etc) and your basic cleaning stuff (dish soap, laundry soap, sponges, etc), I would suggest:

-- at least one skillet and a decent sized pot for soups, noodles, etc. Preferably two.
-- a collander (for draining noodles)
-- a couple of serving spoons
-- a couple of large serving and/or mixing bowls
-- as far as dishes, at least two of everything - plates, bowls, cups. Four of everything is better. Don't forget silverware, and a set of good steak knives.
-- a small dish rack (best bought after you have seen your new kitchen, so you know how much space you have).
-- a couple of bathtowels, washcloths, and kitchen towels.
-- a broom with dustpan, a mop, and a bucket.
-- shelf paper for the cabinets
-- a telephone (most apartments have the phone line, but no phone)

As far as appliances in the kitchen, I would suggest a toaster, and if you're a coffee drinker, a small coffee maker (I have a 4-cup that's perfect for my needs). If you're a tea drinker, a kettle is a must - either an electric one, or one you use on the stove. If there are any appliances you use a lot now, you might consider getting one for the new place, too (steamer, blender, etc.)

Definitely find out if the new place comes with a refrigerator, a washer, and a dryer, and make arrangements for anything you need there (they might have a laundry room, so then you'd need quarters). If there is a dishwasher, you might need soap for it, but if you're alone, it might just be easier to wash the dishes by hand.

This doesn't have to be an expensive endeavor at first. I recommend getting a lot of this stuff at thrift shops, etc, and selectively replacing things with better quality when time/money permits.

Good luck!

Flylady has lists for everything.. See link below
I have moved over 30 times in my lifetime.
I moved 4 times since Katrina and finally bought a motorhome.
(makes it easier, LOL)

The one thing I cannot over emphasize is to take your time in packing. Throw out or donate things you do not use. Do not keep them for one day you might need them. All that will do is clutter up your new home..

Good luck

Moving out from your parents house or moving from your own place to another place? I think you meant the first one. I think this is pretty easy as you just take everything that is yours...

I would go from the very most important things you need to the very least important - such as: clothes, important papers, make-up, then down to cleaning supplies etc...
