My girlfriend and I just had a major fight. The situation is this.....Her neighbors dogs killed her cat. She was affected a lot by this. She loved that cat more than anything. Anyway, she wants to kill the dogs. Shes expressed to me how she wants to do so. I wont let her do it. And she is furious at me about that. We are in a long distance relationship so I cant just take care of it myself. I told her to call animal control. She wont. She thinks her neighbor will know it was her and slash her tires. She thinks I care more about those two dogs than i do her safety and her children. She says i hate her. What the hell do i do? Saying im sorry doesnt even fix this. :-(

I just want her to do the right thing. She thinks they wont do anything cause it happened a few weeks ago and she has no proof.

first of all make sure she knows you dont love those dogs more and tell her how trying to kill these dogs isnt the answer she'll just get charged with animal cruelty just tell her that she should call animal control and that its best for her and her children in the long run! good luck!

Why tell her you're sorry if you said what you felt was right? She's acting childish and what she is suggesting is no way to teach her kids how to do the right thing. The dogs didn't really know any better. It was the neighbor's fault for letting the dogs out and her own fault for letting the cat out. Those are the chances you take when you let your pet loose outside. The cat could have just as easily gotten ran over by a car. You should say to your girlfriend (with pehaps a tone of disdain in your voice) that she has kids to think about who are learning from her and that the way she is thinking is immature and a total turnoff. Tell her that you'd rather hear her say she learned a lesson about leaving a cat outdoors and that she takes on her share of the responsibility for her cat's unfortunate death. But to deliberately kill the neighbor's dogs, who are really innocent and only did what their instincts told them to do, would be cruel to the dogs and would show just how heartless she is. If she could be that cold, it really says a lot about her.

Part of me says... I would be crushed if this happend to me... I would want revenge... however revenge doesn't do any good... to spread the pain she feels onto someone else... is awful.

On the other hand.. I have to ask how they got a hold of the cat? I have to assume it was an outdoor cat. And sadly that is a risk you take when you choose to let your cat outside. If she wanted it safe and sound she should have made it an indoor cat. Now this argument is null and void of course if the dogs got the cat from inside the house some how.

She can call animal control. They may be able to do something.

However killing the dogs accomplishes nothing and its unfair to the dog it was being a dog... she can't punish another animal for for her poor judgment of leaving the cat outdoors.

Question to pose to her.. if the cat got hit by a car and killed would she go after the driver?

I'm sorry to hear about the death of your girlfriend's cat. It is so difficult loosing a loved pet. It is especially difficult to lose one to violence that might have been prevented.

Killing someone else's pets will not make her feel better in the long run. Dogs do what dogs do. They will chase smaller animals and sometimes catch them; just like a cat will hunt birds or mice.

You can't fix the situation and it may be that speaking to the neighbors about their dogs won't do any good. But you can be a good boyfriend by being supportive and validating her feelings of loss.

Life isn't about vengeance; it is about learning to forgive even when we are hurt.

what do you mean by 'YOU WONT LET HER DO IT"
dump this drama babe
If she wanted to kill the dog she would have done it
she does not need your permission....
must be running out of things to talk about in this long distance relationship....
next week, new crisis

I am sure you did not love the dog or the cat more than her or any other human for that matter.
So then she is furious with YOU (missplaced aggression) further drama

If she loved the damn cat so much why was it out there in the first place and how is you NOT wanting her to get in trouble for killing the dog now equated with these feelings. If anything that shows that you do care. If she would have called me that conversation would have went quickly...
HER: I am going to kill the dog
ME: use antifreeze
HER: OKAY
ME: Talk to you tommorrow, BYE
but I digress.........
SHe now says you 'hate her'
MORE DRAMA
if a person really felt that way, why would they even call you or talk to you?
UNREAL

Do you really need this in your life
it is only going to get worse
this person is not rational
could be a clue why the last man (men?) left!
If anyone else to you this story and left out the names (yours and hers) what advice would you give them?

First, she sounds like she's in a bad neighborhood. She should have moved a long time ago. Her cat was first, it could be her kids next and her after that. Does she really think vengence is going to bring back a cat from the dead?

Second, she sounds like an immature brat. Sorry, but I call em as I see em. A cat is a PET, and even a little affection is okay. But it's nothing to ENDANGER your children over.

Third, if you want to put up with this drama...go for it, it's your life.

Dang Ben , sounds like you are between a rock and a hard spot. Maybe ,if you go to a cat fancier(one who raises kittens for personality so they are cuddly and responsive) and get her a new kitty she will settle down . If not, think of what she would do if crossed another way and cut this long distance relationship off and then change your address and phone # and take on a phoney ID cause she could come after you

She can take the neighbors to court to get compensated for the cat and her own issues she has gone through. If she sues for $5000 or under she can go to small-claims court and will not need a lawyer.

I also think that she should call animal control

Buy her another cat or kitten with a letter expressing how much you love her and how you want all the drama to end. A cute cuddly new kitten will do wonders! Women love animals given to them by their significant others. Good Luck
