I am now of the opinion that the fate or destiny of Earth is not in the hands of its people and never was. Whether the Earth continues or is destroyed, I think the "average" person will have no bearing on it, because Earths fate or destiny was instigated from day one with a specific agenda in mind by whom (or what !) I have no idea. If anybody has any ideas on this topic, please let me know as I will be very interested to know your thoughts on the subject !

I don't believe that the Earth's fate is in the hands of it's people, but I do believe that humans are contributing to the dismal "fate" of the Earth.

What an excellent question! A fair, inquisitive, and thorough (i.e., critical) look at the world today (i.e., current events) has brought me to the conclusion that the "fate" of the world (human more so than non-human) is most definitely in humanity's hands--it's all about power relations. And, yes, an individual does, through the choices she or he makes, have an impact on the world, one person, place, or thing at a time. The idea that a single person has no "bearing" on the events that take place in the world means that no one should care if others are starving or homeless or dying. A single person can do good, and the good she or he does can be shared with many others.

Well.. Basically that's an unaswerable question. I mean things like religon would come into it. A lot of people would say thing like "God has a plan for us all" even though they have no prove god even existes! Well.. I mean really it's a good question.. and I really can't give you a deciend anwser. I will give you my opionion though.

I really think what we do won't make a differnce, now im not saying that the "Fate" of the world is not in are hands nor am i saying it is all im really saying "We" won't change the destiny of the earth at all. Something will happen and what we do or anybody else will do won't change that

Well...

"Fate" and "Destiny" are, in my ever-so-myopic view, kind of like "Time" and "Time" is like a river. Specificly, a really big river.
Go stand by one - and I'm talking Nile, Mississippi, Yellow, Amazon, near the end.

Now imagine how you'd go about changing it:

-Throw rocks? One person might make a few ripples...but change the course? Unlikely...just like the hoary old question about what you'd do if you could go back in time before WW 2 and kill Adolf Hitler...would killing him really stop it? Or could it be that the economic conditions and sanctions imposed by other countries after WW 1, caused the German people to have no other choice but war? And without Adolf's incompotence at the helm, could they have won? And would it really have been better for the Jews...after all, wars need scapegoats, don't they?

-Hire a crew to help you? That would take an enormous amount of money - just look at how much money it took to dig the Panama Canal, or the Suez Canal - and you'd probably loose a few lives along the way. Not to mention how LONG it would take...

-Inspire others to take up your cause, to help both themselves and others? That's called a religion, my friend, and we can all see what evil - and for that matter, what good - those have brought to the world.

My particular take on it? I think things are the way they are because we AS A SPECIES *WANT* it that way. The miseries of the world? They weed out the weak, and keep the bloodlines of the species strong. Other animals have predators to do the work for them, Man is the only animal who has to do it himself. And it is NOT a pretty thing.

The Earth will continue - barring catastrophic destruction, like the sun going nova. Could it be what you really mean is "it will be rendered inhabitable to humans" and that's up to us, now more than ever.

We - again, as a species - are coming to a point where our understanding of how the world works is leading us to be able to control HOW the world works. Take weather, for example: what happens when our understanding of weather progresses to enough knowledge of it that we can control it? Instead of throwing nukes, why not a few strategic tornados? Or, no rain during the daylight hours? What if daylight rain is essential, and we mess up the cycle? Trying to change a dynamic system, while it's running, is like trying to change a tire on a moving vehicle - dangerous AT BEST, and disasterous with ANY error at all!

You want to know why nobody's thought of weaponizing weather yet?
Answer is: they have. By international accord, it is illegal to develop weather related weapons...just like it's illegal to develop biological weapons...and look how that works!

As we come to a greater understanding of how people work and interact, we open up the possibilites for controlling people, too. And if that doesn't scare you, just think on it for awhile, and it WILL.

Something I've always wondered about myself...maybe that's the way we're supposed to progress as a species...going from being at the mercy of the natural world to being masters of it...and there's a force, an intelligence - call it God, Gaia, the Great Pumpkin, if you wish - guiding us while we're learning, but now we're at that awkward adolescent stage of development, what we have control of is expanding. Sounds good, huh? Care to guess what the two leading causes of death for teenagers are?
Accident and suicide... think on that and tremble...

'Cause I am, and I'd like the company...

Hope that helps...

I think you missed the point. We are not in ultimate control over the Earth but we will suffer the consequences of our choices - and so will the Earth. However, when talking about fate and destiny you inevitably go toward purpose. Our purpose is what happens while we're here. What WE do.

So make it count.

In the long run, the fate of the earth is not in human hands. One day far in the future, the sun will begin to burn out, expand, and burn away the planet on which we now reside. However, that is about 20 billion years away. Before then, I cannot see mankind destroying the planet itself, though he is well able to alter it to the point that it becomes uninhabitable.

Definitely, our lives have all been pre-destined, and plus we know that the earth will be eventually destroyed, for we have a ticking time bomb... it's called the sun, and eventually it will die... and explode, ad being o close to it we're gonna go down with it... nothing we can possibly do... and i think free choice is only an illusion... i agree that we cannot influence the fate of the earth.

There is no such thing as a coincidence, fate, or accidents....
EVERYTHING happens WITH GREAT purpose. However..Making a choice by NOT choosing is MAKING a CHOICE. So, if you decide NOT to do something...you have CAUSED an OUTCOME. YOU chose it. Just as if you have considered to choose something and follow through with it...You have made a choice. I think so anyway...I learned this the hard way.

Who Else did you have in mind? Aliens? The fate of the Earth is not exclusively in the hands of humans, but we do have an enormous amount of influence. Dolphins are smart enough NOT to destroy their environment to carry on their civilization, but us pesky humans do seem headed in that direction. Other than the current inhabitants of this planet.there are NO outside influences.
To be more precise - god does not exist, so it is all up to us.

fate and destiny can be seen as the guiding force of life leading to the path that you are on but to truly answer your question a path is laid out and it is up to us to follow it or not so in the long run fate and destiny are in our hands and not those of some unseen force
