it is very rough but what are the alternatives, dying of lung cancer, copd ,heart blocks, heartattacks,? I am a nurse. Do this stay away from smokers when you are quiting, clean the house of everything connected. Go to stop smoking classes. Hypnosis does wonders ! chew gum. change your routines. if you smoke after a meal take a walk. first thing in morning with coffee. get a smoothie or switch to OJ or favorite juice. drink lots of water.
Like AA one day at a time.
if you can do anything for thirty days it becomes habit. put positive slogans up in the house in your desk in the car. where you can see them. recruit those who love you to help you. reward your self. How bad do you want it! How Good it si gonna feel. You can do this God bless ! It takes guts ! gett a piggy bank and everyday put the price of your cigs in that bank ! watch your money grow! get a straw and chew on it! You will go through with drawals it is a very addictive drug. you will detox soon.
If you are single! Lots of people will not date someone who smokes! Good luck. And if you smoke around othrs ! second hand smoke is worse than smoking. take care and God bless
p.s nothing stinks as bad as cigarettes you are going to smell so m uch better! there are some meds that may help ask your doc

Hi, I give you a lot of credit to decide to quit. First make a list of why you smoke and why you want to quit then Set a date, then each day reduce the amount you would normally smoke each day til you get to that date and smoke some other place then you normally do for ex. if you smoke at your desk don't go out side or in the basement if you do already smoke outside go out to the side walk. Trade a smoke for a walk, a shower, a good book, or even a hobby. Take it one day at a time. Drink plenty of water, try to stay away from smokers and call somebody if you need to here a voice of support but don't find somebody who is going to remind you that u want a cig because then you will want one. If you find like I you get a feeling of boredom get up move around pick up something like a sucker a toothpick or something to interact with the hand mouth boredom. Yes it is very hard to quit and if you make a mistake so what start again. The main thing is keep away from smoke and keep busy.

My Dr is always on me about my smoking and suggested that I use nicotine gum etc but I always argued that I could smoke cheaper than I could afford stuff like nicotine gum BUT our TX govenor has gotten a $1.00pk tax imposed on cigarettes beginning the 1st of 2007 so guess where I am.
Yes,there is Chantix but at $100.00 a prescription I don't see that happening so it's going to have to be generic nicotine gum, desire and God.
I have been a member of AA for over 10yrs and I am going to use the 12 steps that helped me get sober ,the AA Serenity Prayer, nicotine gum and God.
In the last 5 months I was able to quit for 45days then "relapsed",made another 30 days and "relapsed" until now and this time I look back and see what I did wrong and will try to not repeat those actions and to hang tough.
With alcoholism I have to be willing to do whatever it takes to not take that first drink and that is what I am going to do with smoking.(I know that if I give in to that first cigarette I'm screwed.)
Today I now have 4days of not smoking and I am going to do whatever it takes to NOT smoke another! ! ! !
Good Luck
and
God Bless

It is hard unless you are a smoker and have tried to quit you just don't understand! I have tried it cold turkey and I can not do it. There is suppose to be a new pill coming out that is suppose to suppress the craving in the brain or something like that. I am going to ck with my Dr. and try it. From a smoker that is trying to quit!!! Good Luck!!!

Here's what worked for me.
For 3 days, smoke 5 less than you normally would. For the next 3, remove 5 more, etc... until you only smoke 5 for 3 days.
Then, just remove one cigarette at a time every 3 days. You won't feel that horrible nicotine fit feeling that way, and you won't feel like you're being deprived. By the time you're finished, you won't have the craving anymore.

Smoking is a bad habit and like all others and you have to have the well to quit if you don't then it won't help. When you try to quit without God it won't work. He's the only one who can help you quit. My mother in law has tried once and failed she only did it because we all wanted her to then just resent she decided she wanted to quit on her own and asked God for help and she hasn't desired to pick another one up in fact they make her sick now.

I work at a pharmacy and the pharmacist there had been smoking for years. She tried everything, you name it. There's this new product called Chantix, prescription only. It is amazing! It worked for her and is recommending it to everyone that is ready to stop smoking. More doctors are starting to prescribe this for their patients, it really does work. Talk to your doctor. CHANTIX!
