how did they affect history what changed because gladiators were here?

Without gladiators, the ancient romans would have had nothing to do, which is a scary thought. Who knows what or how many wars would have been started out of pure boredom, in which case rome might have lost, in which case soooo many of the cultures which they affected would be completely diferent. You may think im joking, but im being completely serious, some of those roman emperors were wack enough to do something like that. But there are so many "what if" scenerios, and the truth is that we'll never know for sure, maybe it wouldnt affect a thing.

I have not read much about the gladiators. To me it does seem the most affect theyhave had recently on history is the way they have been portrayed by Hollywood. Their concept is making movie makers a lot of money.
