IEEE stands for Institute for Electronics and Electronics Engineers. The IEEE standards are rules and guidelines for how electronics equipment must function so that certain devices are compatible. Wireless Networking for example has IEEE standards designated as 802.11 (a,b,g,n). Firewire is IEEE1394.

There are too many standards to list here. Just search the Internet for IEEE Ethernet standards. Using "Network" may be too vague.
