How about the nearly 1,400 legal rights, privileges, protections and benefits for starters.
I'm sure if you're single and have no children or inclination to have or raise a family, you probably don't see the point. But I can tell you as a parent and a partner of more than ten years, we know all too well what the points are and how the lack of said protections affects our family.

If you are a married couple by law, you are entitled to benefits, privileges and protection from the government. If your lover gets sick you can easily seek assistance from the government for health care as his legal partner. Compared this if you are not legally wed, you can not apply or share health care benefits. If there are legal documents, you can not both sign it. What if both of you are stranded in war torn country and evacuation is needed. Your country will surely prioritize married couples than those single individuals.
