PTBN mean Player to be named. If you trade in baseball and one of the players is a player to be named later the acronymn used is PTBN

Player
To
Be
Named

Means if you make a trade for someone, the team you made the trade with will give you a PTBN if they don't have what your team needs at the time.

Player To Be Named (later). Often in trades, you'll see something like "Joe Schlabotnik was traded for $50 and a player to be named later." This is done for several reasons: the trading team might not be sure yet which player they want but need to get the trade done before a deadline; the player they want might not be able to be traded yet (such as a recent draftee); or the trading team might not have room on their roster for another player yet.
