San Diego has nothing on East Coast cities when it comes to ghettos. I grew up in Philadelphia and I have been living in SD for 15 years now, and I have never seen anywhere in SD that even comes close, and I've lived in Linda Vista also.

I don't know if you can say one is worse than the other, but Philly, Baltimore, Camden NJ, New York all have pretty bad ghettos, Detroit and Chicago do as well. I've heard places in Cleveland and Cincinnati can be pretty bad, St. Louis also has some shady places. Pretty much any city that is a major metropolis and has a large population has areas that the average citizen stays away from.

By far the most ghetto cities in California are: Compton, Inglewood, Richmond, and Oakland. Although one could argue that those cities are simply unlucky by virtue of location. They are where Los Angeles and San Francisco "dump" certain unwanted minorities, thereby creating the problem in the first place.

In any case, none of them are near San Diego, which is much more tame in comparison (even the worse neighborhoods).

I been on both coast and i gotta say the most ghetto citys with nasty neighborhoods would be tuscon, albuquerque, compton, oakland, los angeles, inglewood, san bernadino, and hunington beach so the west coast takes the cake and theres gangs everywhere in california and new mexico compared to places like new york and new jersey

anything on Market Street.........
off the 5 freeway near the 94 interchange, that's the ghetto of san diego!!

it's the east side of Interstate 5 -- oh National City is kinda crummy too!

But just stay away from Mr. Luther King Blvd., Market Street,
and anything east of the 5 freeway and near 94 where they connect. NOT GOOD!

I would say Detroit, but maybe certain parts of LA, even though Battle Creek, MI is being said to be almost as bad as South Central LA, but that is just a rumor.
