I work in a hospital, where I do heavy lifting all day long. I was wondering when and if the doctor might put me on a weight restriction. Anyone ever deal with something like this?

We're talking about lifting patients that are upwards of 400+ most of the time though, they are around the 150-200+ range.....I don't lift them alone, there's always some one else there to help.

Well honestly it depends on your body, and what you feel comfortable lifting. with my first child i was moving heavy boxes and lifting and pushing and doing all that, with no problem. People did tell me not to, but I did, i felt invincable. I didnt have any problems. Now prego with my second child, I am still as active, moving furnature and all that. It is all in how you move it, i use my legs more than my back, or stomach. Just be smart and stop if it hurts, I haul my kid around on my hip all day, and have had no problems but a sore lower back at the end of the day. I am 7-1/2 months prego, and was yelled at by my neighbor when she saw me putting lights on my roof for christmas... Hey I know i can do it, and as long as i go it slow, and really be careful, I should be fine. I clean the gutters and do all the things that need to be done... just cause I am prego doesnt mean the world stops. I just have to keep up with it, and my doc hasnt said anything against my activity level yet. I will probably stop doing all the heavy hauling in the next few weeks, but for now I feel comfortable enough to keep it up.

I am 9 weeks pregnant and I am a custodian so i lift heavy furntirue an shovel snow etc... anyway - my doctor gave me a note to restrict lifting to 25 pounds. i explained to my doctor my boss is an Ahole and he will make me unlaod a whole truck by myself if he puts 50 puonds down. talk to ur doctor and tell him you dont feel comfortable and that if you are permiitted to lift heavy stuff it wont be once in a while, it will be all day at work - get the note and be on the safe side. good luck!

Heavy lifting throughout pregnancy should be avoided. My doctor told me not to even lift my hands higher than my head a lot. Especially in early trimesters, it can be harmful, and cause a miscarraige. I would definitely inform my doctor of the situation asap
Good Luck

Most women can lift up to the day they deliver-but that is only if you have a normal un-complicated pregnancy.HOw heavy are you talking?Your doctor will definantly let you know when and if you should stop lifting!

im a nursing student and the lifting in the hospital i used to do was of patients. im 20 weeks and my ob told me to refrain from lifting patients anymore. small things are ok to lift especially if you use good body mechanics...feet shoulder width apart, bending at the knees etc...but dont lift anything you think is too heavy it is possible to strain yourself and hurt you or the baby.

I was told to not lift anything that caused me to strain myself. Doing so can put too much stress on the womb and cause problems---like premature birth if you really over exert yourself. If the doctor is going to restrict you, he should do it pretty soon. I would explain your work to him/her and get their opinion.
